M market watch

The advert for the Phoenix Yellow one had disappeared by Saturday night! It looked fantastic, had a great spec and had only done about 44K miles so it looks like someone bought well.

That Custodian one looks a few grand over-priced to me.

I’m lurking and looking for a Z still and can’t decide on a basic spec or an M , I usually get carried away with these things !

A £10k M roadster has popped up on eBay that looks a very expensive refurb for someone or possibly a good risk . The seller has said the body work needs attention but the seats have seem better days and the mot history isn’t much better

Tired M

Just do some detailed research because an M is going to cost you way more to run than any other Z4. I ran 3.0Si for over 5 years so when I bought my M six years ago I knew exactly what I was committing to.

I think you might be better off spending a bit more on a better example in the first place. There is no mention of the rod bearing shells having been replaced, and getting those done will be a 4 figure bill even at a good Indy. If it needs an Inspection Service that is the thick end of another grand. Front discs and pads cost me £600 + VAT supplied and fitted in 2024. And it goes on from there!

And anyway I wouldn't want black with black.

I have no intention of getting that one, way too much work for me and beyond my knowledge to diy most of it .

I do work next door to a garage and can go under the ramps to have a look when they’ve been fixing my existing cars which helps a bit .

I’ve been looking for quite a few months but all the good forum cars have been too far away - my wife has said we are a one in one out system as I have a few cars already. Might be able to convince her for the right car .

The reading / advice on here has been invaluable so far

"We purchased this Z4M (as well as a Porsche) directly from its owner who had a nice collection of cars in storage.....so decided to stick another 5k on the Z4 for the next owner." :D

I am all for prices going up. It just means my unique (colour combo) MC with FSH and 33000 miles is only going up in value. By the way I consider my car to be immaculate, pristine and concours but it isn’t, it’s a 20 year old car…..lol

Ps actually it’s very nice.

Pps I had to buy new rear wheels from the place in Eastbourne but the dealer did the right thing.

I also have no problem with dealers flipping cars as long as they add value - not in this instance though, it’s just a flip.

My z8 from Sytner Nottingham was probably bought for £25,000 less than I paid for it. But for that £25,000 I got a detail (wow, I know but it did make me want the car, a full AUC bring to standard (I have the internal invoices), a warranty which is extendable, and several bits that they had to buy to make it good (tonneau etc). Nothing was cheap. They probably made £15,000 on it. But it means I feel safe driving it as it’s covered. I agree though most dealers do f**k all and just add cost!

Finally on M Market Watch today, the subject of M tax. There is so much wittering on about rod bearings, VANOS, ££££.

I think it is good to remind people of the potential for maintenance costs for these cars but don’t put them off. Of course it is going to be more to service than a regular Z4, but it isn’t stratospheric in overall terms. In most cases, running costs are in the £500/year category if the car was previously well maintained. There may be an occasional thing but it’s not often. And the costs are nowhere near junior supercar levels but you have almost junior supercar performance.

We are right to point out that you can’t run a ZM on a shoe string and that if you can’t afford it you shouldn’t have it. But rod bearings every time?

I wonder what the dealer paid them for it? Listed it at £30k, then put it up to £32k.

Shame there's no photos but £20k for a Cat S seems a lot...? Great colour tho imo.
