Vanne roof, bit of a less fun post..

I don’t see why you can’t test the motor/pump by running a positive and negative to the motor with a 20 amp inline fuse

Well f**k me… I traced and removed the roof module and then removed the weird tape the previous guys had put around the lines leading up to it, to my surprise though, no cuts or mods made there, anyways, while I had the module out, might as well clean the contacts with some Crc spray..

So did that left to dry for 25 mins and then plugged it all back in..

Temp sensor code GONE!!!!

Hell yeah!!!!

Onwards and upwards
(I wonder if hotwiring the pump motor did anything like maybe it was stuck?) or maybe it was just dirty connection?)

The CTM is not that smart and a few corroded pins and all sorts of strange sh!t happens..good result ..

While iam there, I took the rear shelf apart, with the speakers in it, what are those two things I circled? Are they just lights? Or some weird infra red thingy? lol

And after having a look at ISTA, I came up with this beauty of a diagram..IMG-20260813-WA0001.jpeg

Doesn't sound too bad as long as the switches aren't knackered.. Will see..
 
initaily probed the positive pin 20 and pin 23 and wasnt getting any voltage across them.. weird, unless the controlled is shagged. well turns out the doors have to be closed for anything to happen. lol. got a good reading across both.. so thats good.
 
so bmwtools says both switches and hall sensor in shell 2 are open.. if they are open i should get no continuety across the pins right..
gonna go measure the voltage out of em.
 
all switches closed, checked for continuity… all have the correct voltage, and looks like they have throuh-put, for a while at least until the unit stops feeding it voltage..

That’s me testing pin 7 after the unit powers up, and has this output for about 2 mins until it stops putting through voltage.. so that means the switch is CLOSED.. not open.. I think PROTOOLS live data reports it open as there is no voltage going through it after a minute or 2..
 
Okay some advancement… I’ve sorted the a68C hall sensor error, that’s now gone..

But both microswitch roof shell closed / left and right a68b and a68d remain.. which is kinda weird, as both switches ARE closed, as I get voltage readings through them, as shown in the picture. But after the unit powers on, a few clicks can be heard in the CTM module and then the unit stops sending out power on pin 20 and pin 23..
resultant is zero voltage reading on that switch line..

Plot thickens…

so after yesterday being unable to get rid of the a68b/d codes, I kinda resorted to *cough* having a look at the emergency procedure of unlocking the roof mechanically… holy s**t.. this is hard, real hard, and comes with having to destroy the rear inner roof lining.. (the TIS says you won’t be able to remove it without damage)

so I had a look, removed a few bits and then came to the conclusion that this is waaaaay to hard., really hard, (not to mention you need a special key to do it, no dramas there I can make that key as they don’t sell it anymore) might even include the key pic for completeness sakes.. or not.. not sure.. anyways, after snapping off one of the rear roll hoop covers, I got the shits and called it a night…

I then woke up and had another think about wht the CTM is doing…

and how to fool it…

so turns out the CTM doesn’t look for an open or closed logic, nor a voltage down the line, but it looks for resistance..

550 ohms for open..

2.7k ohms - 2.8k ohms for closed.. so just jumpering the line ain’t gonna work.. line pretty much has zero resistance..

soo, looks like I’ll need to go find some resistors..

And I guess if it finds neither of those, it chucks the poos and throws the code, system shut down..

I’ll go and measure the resistance that (depinned ofcourse) the lines are putting out..

f**k yeah.. A68B code gone.. not sure what’s going on, but it looks like there is some issue that’s causing the whole loop to ground, so I had to revert to this..

2.7k ohm resistor and had to chop one side of the loop as it just kept going to ground, I guess there are issues up there I’ll need to fix, but I just want to be able to get shell 2 up and over a bit so I can get access to the issue..

I’ll need to do the same for a68b..

But that will be for tomorrow, before I fly to Orlando, taking the missus out for a few JD’s tonight.. she’s earned it, putting up with my crap for the last 3 or 4 days..

I’ll chock this down as success for tonight anyways.. progress.. yay..
