The Finnish shed. '06 Z4 Coupe

So, a short summary of this summer. I have done 1461km (907 miles), more than I thought as i have not driven the car that much. No real issues with it, only the AC is still not repaired yet, have to leave something for 2026.
I have now checked all I have done during the summer and the list is quite long:
  • New wheels and tyres
  • Installed stock exhaust with all new hangers
  • Replaced Rear ARB bushes
  • Replaced Rear ARB links
  • Replaced the engine earth cable
  • Installed new bonnet struts
  • Oil change
  • Clutch fluid change
  • Waterpump, thermostat and couple of new hoses
  • Aux belt tensioner
  • Valvecover gaskets
  • Cleaned the vanos valves and replaced the gaskets
  • Painted and installed the aero skirts
  • New MOT
  • Replaced he starter
  • Replaced the coils
  • Replaced the coolant expansion tank
  • Replaced the rear top mounts, dust covers and bump stops

To be honest, the list is longer than I expected. But now the list for 2026 is rather short, after that hopefully it will be fine with only oil changes for couple of years.

With only few weeks of the car being in storage, parts hoarding for 2026 is already on it’s way.
I got for cheap all CCV parts so ordered a set of intake manifold gaskets and a voltage regulator, one of those while you’re in there things. None of the before mentioned have given me any trouble so no rush to have them replaced. More of preventative maintenance thing and to keep me busy 👍🏻

2 months already the coupe has been stashed, time flies. I have managed to get a set of front Magneti Marrelli fogs. One came from the states and the other one from Germany. Both ended up costin less than 1 from the dealer, which is nice. Also got a new lower grill for the front bumper. Will get the lot installed after getting the bumper painted so the front should be ready after that 👍🏻

Another month passed and some more parts arrived: Corteco engine mounts, engine oil and filter and some coolant. Oil change is an annual maintenance item for me independent of mileage. Coolant I don’t know when ot has been replaced, I did a partial change when I replaced the thermostat/waterpump during the summer. And engine mounts are still the original ones, with almost 20 years they mist have some wear in them already.
The list for 2026 repairs/improvements/maintenance is almost ready, will share a list when it’s time to get the car from storage. Few months still left but now days are getting longer, a positive switch from the darkness 😀

Hello Micke, we have almost same timetable because my maintenance parts arrived also yesterday. Long winter to wait...

@RadixLecti I’m trying to stay positive and think that the wait is almost half done. Last year I brought the Z4 home the last day of March, fingers crossed in 2026 I won’t have to wait longer.

On one hand it’s a shame that I can’t work on the shed while it’s in storage. On the other hand it’s always nice to plan all the stuff, gather some mates and get things done while getting all the ”love” for driving a BMW 😁

I have same situation and same plan. One maintenance I will do in winter, I take GM5 module and change those door lock relays. Still long time to wait...

The snow has started to melt around here, hopefully not later than the end of the month I’ll bring the shed back home as it has been in storage almost 6 months…

It will be worth it at the end. I have some mates in central Europe that are enjoying cars/bikes already, I’m not jealous at all 😁

Time to get this topic back from it’s hibernation.
I broight yhe coupe home last Saturday after almost 7 months (-1 week) in storage.

I put the battery in and it started with no hesitation and no strange noises.

Since then I’ve not used it much but managed to install the BlueBus I got during the winter.

I also got the needed adapter for the phone from @JonVR46 and will install it when I receive it. Will also install a tuck a cable for possible future updates of the module.

The BlueBus might not be the cheapest module but it’s worth the money in my opinion as the adjustment are plenty, the quality of music has improved (compared to aux cable) and being wireless it makes the car many years younger in my book.

Today gave it a quick exterior clean before attending a local show later in the evening.

I do have many pending items on my to-do list, more on those when I get them ticked off.

Looking great Micke, I love your Cirrus Aluminium dash trim - so much better than the Brushed finish.

Thanks @Mr Tidy The dash has grown on me, last year I was still thinking about getting it wrapped in leather so it would look nicely with the full leather doorcards. I’d still do it if it was the common brushed finish.

I’ve been busy with the coupe and getting things done. A week and a half ago I had a time booked with a PDR guy to get rid of some dents that have been there since I bought the car. 1 small one on the roof, another small one on the passenger door, a bigger one on the rear passenger quarter panel and to finish it off, a rather big one under the 3.0 SI emblem on the drivers side. To get rid of that one I had to remove the emblems and wanted to glue them back. But I came to the conclusion that I’d remove all the rest and now the coupe is nice and debadged. Not sure why I waited so long to do it.
Today in the morning I went to a garage with a lift to do the annual oil change (previous was done on 2.5.2025), replace the coolant (emptied the radiator 2 times)and replaced the diff plug with a magnetic one from a Porsche. Also tried to replace the aircon compressor clutch coil but I need something to hold the plate in place to be able to remove the bolt. Those were 2 hours well spent with a mate. We even managed to have a cup of coffee when the coolant pump was doing it’s thing.

In the upcoming weeks I’d like to get the aircon working and replace the engine mounts, need a transmission jack to lift the engine.
Also pending is the lower bumper grill and install new foglights, the ones on the car have seen better days.

Here’s a pic after a wash before attending a local show the previous week.
