Hi,

as I mentioned in my presentation topic (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=147320), I created a topic to have a sort of diary of what and when has been done to the shed. I bought it few weeks ago in a city located not far from where I live. I have been with a friend to have a look at another one that I was interested in but we could not come to an understanding regarding the price.
Anyway, few days later I brought home this thing. It's a 2006 Z4 coupe with a manual transmission. 137kkm on the clock (~85k miles) and some mods: Bilstein B12 suspension, replica BBS LM wheels in 19" and a Remus muffler. It was used by the previous owner only during the summer which is a good thing as they do use salt here in the winter. For me it's going to be a summer car.
No big plans for it, plenty of maintenance and maybe some small mods that will enhance the driving experience.
Anyway, here are some pics.

The pictures are old, I did some minor changes to the exterior to make it look better. I removed the mudflaps and replaced the antenna with a shorter one. I'm waiting to receive some plain plates, without the country symbol soon.

As for repairs/Maintenance, I have managed to do a thing or two since I bought it
- Oil change
- Oil filter housing and cooler gaskets
- New sparkplugs
- New air filter (came with a K&N, not a fan)
- Cabin filter
- Front brakes hoses and new fluid
- Replaced both cupholders
- Repaired the glovebox (was sagging on one side)
- Removed the mudflaps
- Replaced the antenna
- Set of OEM velour floormats
- Replaced the GPS antenna (position in satnav ~200 miles off)

I do have a list of stuff to do during the summer, will keep the topic update of what is going on with the finnish shed :D

Thanks for getting to the end!

Welcome, Micke. Nice coupe ! Congrats on finding one that's been a Summer car. Your wheels set it off nicely, and silver is the perfect color to compliment your Finnish number plate.

Gave the shed a quick clean and took some pics.

On Friday I’m taking it to a MOT station to get an overview of what should be replaced before the next MOT which is due in autumn. Prefer to do it that way to avoid any surprises later and run out of time. And the weather is now nice if something has to be done.

When it comes to the things to do, there are several items on the list
- Remove CDV
- Aircon service
- Replace gearbox and diff fluid
- Replace valvecover gasket
- Replace rear brake hoses
- Paint wiperarms
- Clean enginebay

The list is much longer but many items are for next year (overhaul the cooling system). Plenty of preventative maintenance but prefer to do it that way than being stranded in a different country during a road trip. At the end of the day it is almost a 20 year old BMW…

Those wheels! I like those wheels. They make the car IMO.

Not a fan of the E85/86 generally, but those wheels on that car make it look superb IMO.

I’m surprised how much people like the wheels. Even my better half commented that they suit the car even if she’s not into cars at all. I have been thinking about replacing them with the typical 19” CSL reps but all the comments made me think twice. Good that there are many things to do before I can think about new wheels.

Today I’ll pock up the new plates. With that the exterior will be done (for now).

Next week it’s time for a road trip with some mates and will do some laps at Porsche Ring in Pärnu (Edtonia). Looking forward to that. It will be very different to my previous car, a more track focused Mini R53.

I like your wheels too.

I'd keep them as they're something different. I've lost count of how many Z4s I've seen on CSL style wheels - that's why I sold my Reps and fitted OE 224s!

Overall I do like the look of the CSL’s but they are very common to see on the web. I reckon there are less than 50 Z4 coupe’s in whole Finland so not a common sight and less with CSL style wheels.
But before I change the wheels I’d prefer to install a limited slip diff.

But coming to some first challenges with the car. I have som issues with the satnav system. In the beginning the poaition was way off which was cured with a replacement antenna. Now I wanted to clear the old addresses from the memory and made some sound adjustments. The strange thing is that after I make the change and go later for a drive, the old settings are back and the old adresses and routes can still be found in the memory. I tried to remove them all at once and also one by one, same result. Any idea what could cause this?

First small road trip with the shed is done. With a small group of mates we made our way to Estonia yo take part in a track day and have some fun. As you can see from the picture, we had very different cars participating (the mk2 in the background had been standing there for many years).

As for the track, did some laps and there is a big change comparing to my previous car (track prepped Mini R53). But with some fresh rubber and proper pads it would work nicely.

Also tried to update the sat nav with latest available software but it did not go as planned as it won’t reboot anymore. I think there have been some issues already (see previous post) and trying to update just bricked the unit. I already have another one on the way, let’s see if it fixes the issues I have had.

Let’s keep the monologue going. As earlier mentioned, I had some problem with the sat nav unit. From not deleting addresses from the memory to not rebooting after a software update.
I sourced a 2nd hand unit and replaced it this morning. Everything works as it should, happy days. The unit also came with the V32 software installed and a 2017 DVD map, unfortunately the ”wrong” one as it does not include Finland.
After installing the unit (which was a pain in the butt), the last position appeared on the screen and it was in the UK 😁

And a random pic after a drive today. I know I’m biased but it really looks good

I have to agree with you, although I'm probably biased too!

Yesterday was another day to have some minor maintenance done on the shed. After buying it, I created a list of things tha should be done and been slowly ticking things off of it.
So yesterday I managed to replace the front ARB links with some Lemförder ones (old had the boots shot), removed the CDV and a block heater that one of the previous owners installed.
The ARB link were interesting as someone oreviosuly stripped the threads on them and still decided to put them back. After some dremeling they were off but what a pain in the ass they were. The engine heater is a Scandinavian speciality. In the N52 it’s attached directly to the oilpan. In my case the shed will be driven only in summer so no need for that.
And the latest mod was the CDV. Was a bit sceptic even if many people rave about the change it makes. And boy was I impressed! Big change overall, gears go in much smoother. Would recommend it to anyone with a manual.

Now it’s time to enjoy the drive before tackling next jobs on the list

For such a small change it's amazing how much difference it makes.

I was quite sure that the poor shifting was due to old oil in the gearbox but this small thing changed everything
