I was put off messing with the roof liner as some other instructions i read said that the roof liner would be damaged when removed.

Had my roof liner off, fairly straight forward.
Need to push down rear corners first, easier with the rear window up over the top.
Then slide your hand in carefully between liner and metal roof and push down
You can sort of feel where the poppers are.
Start here:

Another tip (I recently replaced my convertible wires and hydraulic lines in my roof) is to use a really long screwdriver with tape around the tip and get it right next to the tab and then twist the screwdriver, which applies pressure to just the tab, and not everywhere else. Do it really fast and it pops right out.

To get them back in:
1. Buy new tabs, I lost a few when I was getting them out.
2. Use an endoscope (they're pretty cheap on Amazon and other places) and stick the camera right next to the tab and the hole it goes into so you know when you've got the tab in the hole and then pop it back in place with the base of your palm.

I didn't harm my roof liner. Patience and getting right up next to the tabs with either your fingers (in a few cases I could reach them) or a long screwdriver with the tip taped up and twisting it sideways to pop the tab out works great.

And, if you can get the tool in the first post, it'll probably be 1000x easier. I just ran out of patience with having to track down "yet another tool" for my project and the screwdriver/hand method worked fine for me.

Don't pull on the top anywhere to pull it out though, that's when I bet it breaks -- too much pressure over a larger area instead of a small localized area.

I always use my fingers and finally a tiny screwdriver to lift a lost clip and remove it with my nail iron, that then can be pushed between metal and clip. Patience and no violence are key to success.

And keep in mind, that these roof liner got an interesting price in between: 850€ in GER! Won't know what it'll costs in the UK or elsewhere.

Slightly off topic but still roof liners - what is the best way to clean them? Mine looks a bit discoloured (maybe previous owners were smokers) and slight smell.

The black (Anthracite?) ones seem to be up for sale at around the £200+ mark each, although I managed to pick a pair up for less than £100. Which reminds me, I have a set of cream ones available, dirt cheap, if anyone wants to come and collect them ;)
