BMW Z4 E86 BACK BOX SNAPPED HANGER

Hi,

I have a E86 Z4 Coupe 3.0 SI, the hanger has snapped connected to the back box meaning the Exhaust is clunking around as i drive.... every noise it makes is like kick in the stomach as I love this car!

I took it to BMW Stratstone in Hull today and was quoted £1600 to repair this, they said if I took the temporary solution of welding... they cant promise that it would last 24 hours once i drove it away.

I then took it to a local garage (friends advice) and was quoted £50 to weld this back in place, i was told a good weld can carry more than a tonne... obviously my exhaust doesnt weigh a tonne!

I just wanted to ask, has anyone suffered the same problem and if so, is a weld a good long term solution?

I was debating getting the back box removed altogether but i need this to be a quick fix as I've got an airport run in a few days! (Was told it would take longer to order the right parts in to get it removed altogether).

Hi Rax

This is a really common issue and most get it welded. I had mine welded by a local custom exhaust place. Charged me £20 and I had no further issues.

Welded mine 2yrs ago when I bought the car, been fine since.

£1600!?? You are having a laugh! :lol:

As members above have suggested, a decent weld will suffice

Thanks everyone!! Got it fixed today in 15 minutes for £30.... saved a good old £1,570

I had mine repaired last year and still going strong.

Was that £1600 for a new exhaust?
