Sport button

Hi people
Sport button....lights up nothing else. I know its only supposed to enhance/sharpen throttle response and stiffen up steering but when I press it I can't feel either!?!? I got an Astra 1.9 cdti sri and when I press the sport button on that I can feel the car surge, feels like I pushed the go pedal an extra inch even tho I haven't. Is there a way of checking it works??
Cheers

For steering try both at parking speeds, you should notice it then.

For throttle response likewise but note the sharper response is only engaged after you next lift off the throttle. When you turn it off it acts immediately and you can feel the drop in power on a constant throttle, particularly at higher speeds.

Try pulling away in first, I find it allows a longer time in first before I want to change up to second. It might be all in my head but I definitely notice a difference. I also feel unlike the other post that my difference is in a quickness to " speed " up. The steering definitely lightens up as well.

'Quickness to speed up' is throttle response. It gives you say 70% of the throttle with 25% of the travel where as normally it's say 40% for 25%. So you flex your foot the same amount and speed up more, gives the illusion of being faster. Strictly speaking it is as it opens the valves quicker than normal but you would barely see it in timed runs. The steering definitely gets heavier in sport not lighter.

Hi, wouldn't normal throttle response be linear? I'm thinking 40% throttle for 40% travel?

Ok cheers guys il give it another try and see. My Astra does as you all say above and I can definitely feel a difference once a press button but can't seem to feel anything on the Z. Thats whats making me think is it actually working??? I will give it another go!!

One way to notice the difference is to drive around for a few days with the sport on and then take it off: the pedal should feel much less responsive.

if you drive with it on at a constant speed holding then switch it off without changing the throttle position you will feel a slight drop in revs.

I find that it's easy to tell the difference stationary when blipping the throttle. The throttle is much more responsive with the sports button pressed.

It feels most likely to be 1 for 1 but given that it's electronic I can't be sure. (Even mechanical could use a cam profile) Some pedals feel mapped differently as standard.

Right just tried this and it does seem to drop the revs ever so slightly, so button must be working. A lot more subtle than my astra tbh, maybe that's how I couldn't tell as was expecting the drastic change as in that!?!?

A throttle reset should help and then you should be able to feel the difference in throttle response. In my experience the heavier steering is not as easy to feel but the reduced throttle travel is very noticeable - I used to always drive with the Sport button on as I didn't like the long travel of the throttle on non sport mode.

I can defo feel a difference, but then mine is an auto. Throttle response is much sharper with sport button pressed.

If you cannot feel any difference with it on or off then it's not working. Simple...

In a manual forget anything about 'faster' as performance is identical, but the throttle response changes for any pedal movement are huge.

Auto is very different setup, but I assume we're talking about a manual here
