F type Jag depreciation

Shawna I know you work in the business and you probably know more than most of us but I don't agree with that comment. Jaguars have always suffered and that they would always keep on suffering. Whatever car comes out of that factory will always suffer with high depreciation. Maybe not all the time but anything new yes .... Maybe not an E type ....

I wouldn't call the F-Type your average Jag, probably the first truly coveted sports car, on a mass basis, they have made since the E-Type. I'm not sure I share your optimism of stone like depreciation. Once these hit a price point that allows more people to venture in (say £35-40k) I wouldn't be surprised to see prices stabilise for a while.

Only 50% if your lucky _ it's a big lump of cash on an expensive car!

Especially as this is a car you are going to spend several grand on extras before driving away too. Big depreciation is to be expected on such cars though, nothing new or unusual. If you don't need much boot space then it's a lovely car.

The extras are bought at great expense at the beginning but aren't worth any extra at trade in!
It's just priced as a standard car :(

Extras I think just help with desirability and assist with people wanting to buy your car. I'd doubt anyone would buy a secondhand car without nav, Xenons, leather etc, if they were extras.

Speaking of which how many of us would go back to fabric seats now

Whilst extras on a car certainly drop in value massively from the price paid, I'd argue they do in effect have a residual value, albeit limited.
Even your post suggests that 'desirability and assisting people to want your car' echoes that as the car will command a higher price, even if that's merely not discounting as much as one without the extras.

I agree re fabric seats. While leather won't carry a premium fabric would cause an huge discount on sale.

if they were tartan and in a Golf GTI - straight away , its interesting i lived in France for a couple of years and Leather is not that desirable due to the heat in the summer, hence a lot of those half leather / half cloth interiors you see in top of the range Pugs.

I'm with you there. I'm the same in Spain. Give me a decent fabric cloth on my hire cars, unless it's a high end with perforated seats and fan driven cooling.

Wait a minute - that's what you get on an F type :)

I agree with tartan seats in a GTI.....love em and still think one day ill have a GTI again....an anniversary model though

I have them in the new car.....just what is required for an Aberdeenshire Summer! ... are they std or an option on the F ?

Stark- I always thought id have another GTI - but i have now driven the R and although its less iconic - it drives fantastically . Sat in a 208 GTI 30 ans the other day in Paris - i dont think their will be many of those left when they come on sale .

So all things even (spec, age, mileage) & £35k to spend, where would your money go?

F Type V6S or 981 Boxster S.

I think I've changed my mind on this I would have said F type ( although you cant get one of these for 35k yet) but having been in a few 981s recently i prefer the cabin in the 981 - the F type feels a little like being in a lowered Range Rover as the switch gear is all broadly the same.

I've been pretty impressed by Porsche Dealer service - however you have to keep the car in absolute OEM spec to benefit from the warranty . i was out last week with a mate with a 981 2.7 and he was following two 4S 911s and the car looked really composed and looked fantastic in Basalt Black.

so 981 S for me byt i think 38-40k is minimum and you would want at least the Sports Exhaust .

something like this ...

I'd go with the F Type. I've just never really liked the Boxster and just so many of them around, albeit different variants since first launched in 1996
