AUTOBRITE MAGIFOAM,V CHERRY WHEEL CLEAN, PURPLE RAIN , BRILL

HI TROOPS ive just used the above on two cars my Insignia comp car 800 -900 miles week and wifes E89 on my car the wheels caked in brake dust , auto glym wheel cleaner is useless at removing this , also i want a quicker safer way of cleaning our cars ive been looking at the forums run by the Detaiers , these are guys who are very ocd about cleaning , i hate having a dirty car and am always washing it , so you could argue im also OCD about this , so i bit the bulllet and visted Auto brites unit in Stoke on Trent , first thing that happened was the guy who served me literaly grabbed my arm to inspect my Rolex , i felt this was odd to say the least, ,dont let this worry you though he was very helpfull , i purchased the 5lt of magifoam std snowfoam and an applicator gun for £64 , he then recomended the Wheel cleaner non acid type and somee Purple rain ,

Today i used it all firstly the Insignia as mentioned earlier the rims were caked in solid brake dust and deposits , the Auto glym did not touch it , so i applied neat the wheel cleaner to one rim to test left it 5 mins , then jetted all off with Karcher K4 ,amazing result i was left with the same result as if i had used AG shampoo and a cloth and a lot of hard work , on the same wheel i then used the Purple rain ,again neat though it acn be diluted , it went on Clear and very soon turned purple all over left for abot 4 mins agitated with a small bristle brush from Aldi , then jetted off , again bloody amazing , virtually all the caked on solid brake dust and deposits came off v small amount left so applied some more again agitated , 5 mins jetted off the rears were spotless, the fronts virtualy the same , to say i was amazed is an understatment, thank you to the man at autobrite Stoke , he sold me the right stuff ,

then started on the body work , firstly jett the body all over to remove loose debris and loose grit , ITS THIS THAT WRECKS YOU CAR PAINTWORK WITH SCRATCHES ,then set up the the snow foam lance ,about 1 1/2 " of magifoam in the container attached to my Karcher K4 , tell them which make of Jet wash you have and they supply a connetcor for you, then start , Wow!!! it was like a custard pie fight , fire the magifoam all over and everywhere on your car inc in the arches and wheels again you have to adjust the wheel on the top to control the Magifoam / water ratio , not too thick as it wont penetrate , not too thin either ,get it right and this will soften the dirt and debris , if you rinse off first with the Jet wash there wont be much visable crap left , AGAIN ITS THE STUFF YOU CANT SEE THAT WRECKS THE PAINT , allow to dwell for 10-15 mins , go have a cup of tea , thats what i did, be warned the foam goes everywhere neigbours may moan ,again jett off thoroughly , at this stage i have not laid a cloth on the car and it looks amazing ,i then squegeed off ,some dirrty residue appeared but jet it and squegee off you have two choices now , either leave it , which i did on the insignia , or wash with AG shampoo and jett off again which i did on the Z4 , following the initial stages mentioned the strange thing is on the Zed the cloth seems to glide over the bodywork easier , and ii have to admit , im not bullshitting , the Zed appeared cleaner , which is quite clean anyway the wheels benifitted from the wheel cleaner as lots of dirty residue appeared from the plate behind the rear discs the plate behind the front discs also appeared cleaner ,some purple appeared after applicataion of the purple rain ,though not much , i then leathered off , i would advise you use new cloths and leathers , thoroughly clean you buckets out to remove any stuff
that could scratch , allow plenty of time , i found it amazing how this stuff works , The magifoam, the lance , the purple rain, and wheel cleaner cost me £83 , when i left i thought bloody hell what have i wasted my money on , i need not have worried though , all the products did exactly what the man at Autobrite said they would do  , sorry this discription seems
like war and peace , but if like me you love your pride and joy , i think its worth it :driving:

Nice write up and describes what I need to do on our Discovery. Nothing I have tried so far has got close to cleaning the wheels.

A couple of pics would have rounded off your post!

i agree , there have some outstanding offers , i am in Stoke once a week , i will be going back for more products hopefully when there's an offer on , i would like to try a product called 'IRON X' this seems quite popular with the detailers . as an alternative to Autobrites Purple Rain for removing hard to remove surface deposits and solid brake dust , as i said before there is a huge range of products doing many things , some may be surplus to requirments though , but i am more than happy with what i walked away with ,

You say the cloth glides smoother across the z4 than the insignia, this probably means you need to get that insignia clayed.

i only followed up with AG shampoo and cloth followed by a rinse on the Zed , but you coould be right re the Insignia due to the large mileage it does , , but i'm sold on the Magifoam etc ,

Good story and great you are pleased with your stuff but...
If you are that bothered about scratching your paintwork (you did mention it twice in capital letters) you probably shouldnt squeegee your car without actually washing it first. Snowfoam and jetwashing will not remove all the crap that can scratch your cars paint.

I usually do wash with AG Shampoo prior to using the squeegee and on the zed After using the magi foam I did wash with AG Shampoo ,rinse ,then squeegee then leather off ,but on the insignia You are correct I did not . I wanted to see if I could get away with not putting a cloth on the insignia ,I feel the magifoam makes life a lot easier and does remove a lot of debris , but still needs an application of AG Shampoo to finish off, and to be honest I used the insignia as a test, as I had never used these products or this method before , but I am more than happy with results

The next step is finding a better technique to remove excess water after application of the AG shampoo /rinse, also the correct choice of wax treatment , this seems like a mine field :headbang:

You shouldn't use a squeegee full stop on the cars paintwork. Easy way of scratching it.

I think you may be right ,it seemed like a good idea at the time how do you recommend drying the car off ,I've seen some drying cloths on the autobrite site what do you advise,?

i use a super blue fluffy drying cloth, its massive and they work great. i got mine from cleanyourcar.co.uk. i do use a squeegee i have a auto glym one and it works great but you do have to know how to use one.

What's your technique for using a squeegee :scratchhead:

i tend to hold it at a 45 degree angle from the body work and only using a small amount of pressure bring it towards your body. don't use the cheap ones in poundland get a good make one thats more flexible. you only want to flick the water off the car then use the drying cloth to finish.

I use a microfibre cloth and some quick detailer to dry the car.

im in stoke on monday so looks like it off to autobrite for their large delux fluffy drying towel , im also onsidering their matt pinksheen dashbord dressing as well the auto glym stuff is too shiny , im also considering getting some Victoria concours wax ,there have been good write ups about about it does any one have any experience on this wax advice would be appreciated

MMn that's what I thought don't use a squeegee. I use a large microfiber towel and pat the bodywork with it, alternatively when the towel is damp you can just gently drag it over the surface.
To be honest you can only minimize the number of scratches not totally prevent them. My car is black, nothing worse for showing any marks than a black car. :headbang:

i sympathise with you ive just purchased a fluffy drying towel as well ,i wont be using the squegee anymore ,i am debating what treatment to use after the magifoam is rinsed off, i am going to go over the car with AG SRP then a wax treatment possibly Victorias Concours wax it seems to get good reviews , guy on here who started a thread call first clean in seven months, used a Zaino polish , but he hass nearly every type of Ultimate finish product going , his car is absolutly stunning underneath it looks like brand new .but all he has done iis remove clean ,polish and replace ,
