SORN - Do DVLA still round Tax to beginning of month?

This might require an obvious answer, but Sunday marks March 1st, I was considering getting my coupe out for the spring :driving: , if I left it a couple of weeks do the DVLA simply charge for the whole month anyway?

Also, I plan to garage mine again around the end of September, so it would seem the best plan would be to buy a full 12 months road tax at £500 and then SORN and get a refund end of September, does anyone disagree with my logic ? :?

Yes they do.

Tried to tax my track car this week and was going to be taxed from 1st Feb. Decided to wait a few days

12 months in one go is the cheapest option so if you're happy to have it tied up, that would be the cheapest option for you.

Taxed my M coupe today and was given a choice of it starting either from 1 Feb or 1 March. I chose 1 March and to pay by DD @ £43.75 per month, so will be an extra £12.50 for 6 months over the pro rata rate per month on the £500.00 annual rate.

No theoretically about it, if your stopped you will get a ticket.

Tax mine first march for twelve months and send it back end October.

how much notice is required to SORN a vehicle? i.e. if I want to SORN a vehicle on the last day of the month then when do I need to notify them?

I won't actually be using it until Sunday, so no worries. :)

Used to be the date stamp on the envelope the DVLA used, but if you do online then it can be the last day of the month.

I think you can do it online and it's instant... could be wrong though. DD is the way forward for the extra 5% it costs, no hassle.

Cheers, I'd then be looking for the refund in October, bloody shame they couldn't have got my car registered 6 months earlier to avoid the high fee :!:
