Hi I have the same problem on a 2006 2.0 sport 53k, diagnostic says it was engine immobiliser and the key has rolling codes and as its 10years old so may have worn out, and speaking to local BMW dealer a new key ordered which comes coded, been fine for 200 miles and started cutting out again...
