Usually leather is plastic coated to protect it.
This is on 90% of leather products, including cars.
Cleaning with bilt hamber surfex HD gets me the best results.
No need to add anything afterwards.

There is a magnet on that part, but you are best to get a code reader and look for fault codes. It will tell you where to focus.
If you only have micro switch issues you can concentrate on those. There might be some damage to those parts, but it might not be the issue.
