Fault 5A53 : Transmission overheating, phase red, black

Finally in the shop this week after waiting for German-shipped parts... My son has taken over that garage bay with his 2015 F30, finishing up new tips on a Valvetronic axelback. Certainly makes that N26 purr. Zed withdrawl continuing.

    Story Time About My Z4

If you havent had those 296 wheels off yet, I'd recommend removing them and checking the ugly side of those wheels for hairline cracks/fractures. they are sometimes hard to see when on the car. You'll only find out when the tech tells you at your next tire change...

Went down an AI rabbit hole with datalogs

Well, sick Fable on it and see what it says... when they let it back out of federal prison.... Honestly hadn't thought of that yet, but now I'm probably going to start a project on cowork and start logging. :headbang: What did Claudio infer from your data? Please keep the thread updated as...

    Bendpak Quickjack 6000TL

Recently picked up a Bendpak Quickjack 6000TL on a holiday sale. I have to say it was an amazing decision. Nothing like lifting a car 24" in seconds. My Z4 has been waiting for transmission parts from Germany, and I don't have the tooling to handle a transmission out service. But, I'm...

Fault 5A53 : Transmission overheating, phase red, black

Update: 5A53 Transmission Overtemp Fault — Finally Getting Properly Fixed Been chasing a recurring 5A53 (Phase Red/Phase Black — Transmission Overheating) fault on my 2011 Z4 sDrive35i (E89, N54, Getrag GS7D36SG DCT). My local BMW dealer kept clearing it without pulling freeze-frame or shadow...

Guide: Replacing Water Pump and Thermostat - E89 N54 (and radiator)

I bought a Pierburg 11515A05704 - Full metal (including bolts) for my fix 2 years ago -- It's still good. What the 11515A05704 actually is — and why it exists BMW originally used VDO/Continental (A2C59514607) to supply the electric water pump for the N54/N55, and those pumps were plagued...

Fault 5A53 : Transmission overheating, phase red, black

This hit twice this week iu 75F weather on a light drive... So... :poop: I have an indy that is going to systematically check temps to trace the problem next week, but ugh. I've done transmission service 2 years ago, it tripped in july last year and the stealership just cleared the codes...

What have you done to your E89 today

Looking at that picture of your tail light hole of doom, your gasket isn't fully seated. It should be pulled through and and overlap the edge of the metal. you may continue to have leakage there if not resolved.

Best to replace complete hydraulic unit or just fit a reconditioned motor

I had mine rebuilt with new motor, new seals by Top Hydraulics. It's been good ever since. It was $800 USD when I had it done. With their motor, it may be better than OEM after. Much cheaper than a new unit as well.. "...At Top Hydraulics, we design our own seals designed to far outlast the...

    Oil change, kindly advise

Adding my 2 cents. I only drive mine 6-7 months a year due to the seasons here in Ohio. 2x annually. April when its coming out to be driven again, and in October when it's cleaned/covered and put into the garage for the winter. Oil wears out over time, even if not driven. If you do...

    Liquid Moly Engine Flush

Been using Motul 8100 X‑Cess Gen2 5W‑40 LL‑01 every 6 months on oil changes. Very confortable with that choice and frequency. Someone had recently asked me if I'd ever done an engine flush before changes. No. But I remember how varnished the engine looked when I replaced the valve cover...
