Soun Sounds similar without the rattling, just knocking. But the knocking is not all the time, other times normal. Weird. Engine runs well apart, even when knocking. Only occasionally running engine for fear of terminal damage.

BTW, there is no clunk on steering movement either stationary or moving.

I have an E85 Z4M 2006 (93k mls) with a clunking noise coming from the bulkhead, seemingly where the steering column runs down. I have replaced the intermediate shaft with a used one, but the clunk is still there. On smooth roads, e.g. m'ways the clunk is not heard, but on other roads, whatever...

The shaft is still on the car, which I'm about to put away for the winter with occasional dry road use. Thinking of doing the job in the Spring.

My Z4MR had an Inspection 2 service in June 2024, the service indicator is now showing "Inspection", which can't be right as the next service should be "Oil service". As I understand it, Inspections 1 and 2 alternate approx every 25k mls with interim oil services. The car has done 4k mls since...
