E86 gearbox remap on this car, a common thing?

Saw this beautiful looking white E86 for sale on autotrader here and the owner says it has an upgraded and updated transmission optimisation, in M/Manual mode, it allows full control of the RPM until manual input via the paddles - is this a common thing to do? Never seen it before on any posts.

I mean, this thing is gorgeous: white, extended leather, saddle interior, CSL's...

I don’t think it’s very common. I know of someone who tracks a Z4 and made a XHP remap and was over the moon with the change and the possibilities to make changes to shifting points and similar.
 
As standard you have full control in manual, except it won’t let you over-rev or under-rev. As Micke says, you can get a XHP flash which enables you to change the shift characteristics. I think @bigwinn on here has done one.

I’ve seen this advertised before. Not everybody likes Alpine White, but I think it’s great (Titan Silver was the closest I could get). The seats are standard, albeit in the nicer “New England” trim, and you would struggle to find a pair of MSports in saddle brown to replace them with.
Price seems fair for a Uk car, but this is a Jap import. Generally Jap imports are in great condition off the boat due to the stringent MoT-equivalent requirements, so a lot depends on how long it has been exposed to the British roads for. And people are almost as suspicious of imported cars as they are of insurance categorised cars.

That was from someone else doing it (@Meds i think it was you?)

Changes the response, clutch engagement and down/upshift

There was an option to personalise and customise but I only ever used 0, 1, 2 and 3 settings

I hate to disappoint, but not me. I'm manual.
 
On a separate note my 2003 is a jap import. Condition wise on the underside although my son’s car is good, mine is night and day. There are other strange anomalies though. My car had no alarm for instance , has xenon’s but no headlight wash etc. jap cars are limited to 123 mph too apparently, never tried to see if it’s true.

Insurance wise, it’s not a problem or any more expensive . I pay £270 for £6k agreed value fully comp.
