e89 FOB battery replacement - first try failed

Since my Zet became my daily I have (after 13 years being there without not even a single use) took out second FOB from my safe and unsurprisingly its battery gone. Few year back I wanted to be prepared, so googled then, bought two spare batteries and had them ready for the case. Looked like easy job. Wrong. To my surprise battery 2032 (result of my googling then) does not fit, 2020 being the type which fits. I will have to order two again and replace (unbrazing + brazing-in needed) later. Grrrr.
 
2020 is just the size. Nothing more. First 2 digits is the diameter of the circle in mm, second 2 digits are the thickness in tenths of a mm.

20mm diameter, 2.0mm thick.
 
In my experience, it's also easier to buy a clip together replacement case, rather than trying to glue the original case back together.

I've found either the glue fails, or the buttons don't work properly once glued.

The solder/brazing isn't too hard either, you'll be pleased to know

Hi pavproch,

When I bought my Z4, it came with two keys, however one did not work and I was advised it just needs to be recharged, Well guess what...no it was stuffed. No biggy I just get a replacement battery. Oh no it has a special rechargeable battery that needs to be soldered in, and the case is glued!

So a little research on the issue , and apparently there are two types of key fobs. 1:- with a removable case. and 2:- non removable case ( glued).

My fobs are glued and checking the prices for the battery and the hassle of breaking open a fob unsoldering and resoldering and then reassembling the fob, I decided to go with a service that would do the whole job plus replace the 3 switches, clean and check the functions for :-

I sent the key fob on a Monday evening and I got it back Friday morning, working perfectly :)

NOW a word of caution :)

This service is offered on Ebay, but you need to be diligent in your search criteria. As with many sellers they will offer the same goods, service for various prices, depending on the ebay algorithm that is exploited by the seller.

The same seller also offers the same service for £19.99 plus £3.50 P&P, you just need to find it !

Thanks, but TBNT. Having started it DIY, I am going to finish it the same way. Mine is glued, thus I will glue-tack it back.
