Can't unlock car

Hi,

Now I know this is a common problem but quick search and I can't seem to find the answer I need.

So this morning park car up at work and i can't lock car after five attempts car locks, but now it won't open and the boot will also not open, gm5 repaired recently solved my intermittent opening issues so I think this is dead battery in the key.

My question is opening the car via the lock will trigger the alarm, will I be able to disable the alarm and start the car with a dead battery in the key?

Thanks

The immobiliser doesn't use the battery in the key so yes, the car will start and the alarm won't sound if you open it with the key.

Doesn't it communicate with a chip in the key tho?

I'm certain the alarm will sound and pressing a button on the key will only disable it if the key still has power, i know that from gm5 issues where the fob wouldn't unlock car but would disable the alarm after it's been triggered

If the alarm sounds (it is a coding option whether the key triggers or disarms the alarm - you'll have to try it to find out), put the key in the ignition/turn the key. The second the car recognises the key, the alarm will be silenced

As above. For completeness, there is a sensor within the ignition barrel, which reads the chip in the key, and sends the 'ID' of the key to the EWS (immobiliser) to determine if the car can start.

The central locking is all via the GM5, and a totally different circuit.

Ok thanks guys it's pretty much what I was thinking, was just worried that the car won't start as I've had intermittent ews errors that I thought might be down to the battery in the key been old

So for future reference car alarm went off with door unlocked by key which i knew it would but when in the past pressing a button on the fob stops alarm this time nothing, however putting key in ignition stopped alarm and started car.

Central locking works on internal button and also on spare key so it is definitely a dead battery, have just opened the key and getting 3.12 volts on battery i was expecting less but have new battery on order so will compare.

Thanks
