7,500 mile Alpina Roadster FJ55 HAX #263 - What will it go for ?

In the light of what people have discovered my estimate was also obviously way too high!

While you can't undo miles, I'd rather have a car that had done more miles (anything below 50K is still low on a 20+ year old straight 6 BMW) and didn't potentially needs thousands spent on it to get it in the condition it ought to be.

IME mileage (or lack of) trumps everything else. You can mend a car but you can't undo miles (not legally anyway).

As I am a sucker for ultra-low mileage cars (just ask my bank manager), I think that is currently a bargain despite the info that has come to light.
 
I have to admit, I was tempted to bid on this and sell my own Alpina if I was successful afterwards.

However, having seen what being based ‘at the seaside’ can do to a car, and the additions to the listing, it’s not for me.

Might be a gem, but too much risk when you factor in flights, cost to have it transported back to the mainland etc. and you can never rebuild 20 years of non-existent history.

I’d expect so, but what reserve do we think the seller has set? I think it’ll be well above the current bid, purely because of the mileage.

That's difficult because we don't know how greedy realistic the owner is likely to be :p

You have to balance the low mileage against the questions over documentation and lack of servicing. More-or-less pristine bodywork is all very well but how much extra will be required to ensure that the oily bits are at the same level - we know it'll be somewhere between £0 and £(insert large figure here), and this is the risk the bidders are taking.

If it were mine and the documentation was pristine, including full service history (main agent or independent specialist) and full MOT trail... with that mileage I'd fully expect someone to be willing to pay over £30k for it and I'd set the reserve at £28k (£30k including fees)...

...but...

...with the questions regarding the documentation, complete lack of regular servicing (the bills for some of the work are from a non-specialist garage - they even had to take it somewhere else to get codes cleared) and not even an MOT trail as a basic mileage record, I'd be over the moon if someone would pay £25k (including fees) and I'd likely set a reserve of around £20,500 (£22k including fees)
 
I think the current highest bid is a trader. It will be interesting to see if a trader buys it, and how it’s advertised when it inevitably returns to the market if that’s the case.

Hopefully anyone doing their due diligence in future will find this thread and realise this is a car that’s sat by the sea for 20 years unloved.

Yes, to make it easier to find perhaps @Number5 can edit the thread title to include the reg (FJ55 HAX)


NB it's now at £21,250 (£22,780 inc. fees) with 4 hours to go...

...and it now has a banner on it saying 'Reserve Lowered' so perhaps the seller is getting a reality check

Do you know what the name of the winning bidder was, I was distracted doing something else so missed it. Submitting my ‘agreed value’ form to the insurance company for my own Alpina online (which wasn’t working🤬).

So, £29,158 inc fee’s. Might be a bargain (relatively speaking), might be a money pit 🤷🏻‍♂️
