Have been getting quite a large thud through the rear of the vehicle when changing medium-agreessively between 1/2/3rd, 4/5/6th not so much. Ive noticed that theres also a slight knock from the rear when tipping in and out of throttle at low speed (3rd at 15 mph ish). The thud is less of a knock but more sounds like something is smashing into the boot floor or atleast transmitting through the entire rear end of the vehicle.
As a route to try and resolve this, my initial thought was to swap the diff bushes out for some new ones. Managed to do this on the drive and the bushes that were removed did have a fair amount fo play in them. Whilst under there ive also been down the prop and replaced the centre support bearing, but not changed the guibo as that seem to be in great condition with no cracking or play. There didnt seem to be any excessive play in the half shafts at either of the 4 CV joints. I also did a Diff and Gearbox oil service whilst under there. The noise definately sounds more rear biased than the transmission although noise paths could mask this.
On completeing all of the above, the car does feel slightly better, but the thud is definately still there as well as the tip in/out knock.
Next thoughts would be:
- Subframe bushes
- Input joint to the Diff needing greasing (would this be a thud though?)
- New driveshafts
I cant think of anything else back there that would cause a thud specifically in changing gear and tip in/out. If it was suspension related it would knock when on rough roads rather than on accel on smooth roads.
