What did you do to your Z4M today?

Installed 4-pot Brembos all around. Usually I do a lot of research before doing such an expensive modification, but this was very impulsive and only did a couple of days of looking around and research, which resulted in some issues that with more time I would have avoided, but very pleased with the end result.

I'll probably put a thread together with some of the learnings to compile all the info into one thread. So many over the years which caused me to miss some key information.

Good looking upgrade. What rear calipers are those? I was having a look myself two weeks ago. DB9 front calipers work well at 44 and 40 mm diameter pistons. The unequal sizing also aids more uniform pad wear.

The db9 rear caliper pistons are unfortunately too large, sending brake bias too far rearward. The closest I could find were 991 carrera s or alfa giulia rear calipers.

Interested to know what you have gone for.

They are Cayman S rear callipers (996.352.421 and 996.352.422). I haven't checked the calcs myself, but I believe the bias is moved frontwards 2.3% with my combo. In practice, from the little I've driven with them, it hasn't made much of a difference to how the rear end feels under hard braking - probably offset by the extra modularity I have, so I find it easier to play with the car on the brakes.

I also have the option to change the front damping to shift the dynamic brake bias a bit if I feel it needs it.
 
Changed the brake fluid (very embarrassed to check it with the tester and it was off the scale) so did the flexi hoses all round too.
 
Changed the driver’s side angel eye bulb for the second time in three years. I muttered the same profanities and sustained the same cuts on my hands as I did last time I did it 😔
Strange that the passenger side bulb has lasted 20 years. I’m pretty sure I only use the side lights as a pair!

Anyway, after a lot of deliberating, faffing and speaking to an s54 expert I deemed either the engine would s**t itself almost immediately or it would be fine... it was a heart in the mouth key turn I can promise you!
Many oil changes later and still no sign of it. When I eventually get round to doing another rod bearing change perhaps there will be a little present for me in the sump😅

I can imagine the fear leading up to turning it over! Starting mine after my first valve job was bad enough.

I expect you turned it over by hand a few hundred times before plucking up the courage to turn the key!

Glad it paid off!
 
Fitted some coilovers, realised I need shorter ARB drop links to run as low as the h&r springs were. Dampers were shot all round. One of the strut bolts snapped in the kingpin which wasn’t ideal. Just dropped it off at Everything M for a fettle prior to a road trip in the autumn.

Was admiring your coupe in the car park I think, we must have been 5-10 minutes behind you on that lap - the golf had just been recovered as we went through the yellows before carousel. @CaroleHeidi saw two blue coupes finish laps within about 5 cars of each other, UK plates ending LUD and PEF.

Yes, that would be my friend Piers in his 3.0si. We were in a group of 3, the other car being an RX-8 PZ.

Many nice UK coupes there!
