Parking this here. My new to me E85 2.2i, things I'm doing, things I need help with.

This trim piece is likely the cause: the plastic hoops that the clips holding it in place stretch and the roof doesn't clear it when it closes. It'll only get worse. Remove it or replace it if you can't take it off and fix it so it sits flush. 1000097989.jpg

Dropped the car off at Sytner this morning. Goodness me, you can see where all that £xxx rate per hour goes. Glad I'm getting a healthy discount. Drive In servicing where staff guide you through what looks like an oversized airport scanner that reads your number plate, and checks your tyre tread depth before you hand your keys over and you're whisked away to another area where you say no to all the extras 😂 Very silly. But I suppose some people like it. They'll have fun with the driver's door.

While I was there I took the opportunity to order the windscreen weather strip to replace the one that's perished. About 70 quid and coming tomorrow. Still had to show the guy which part I needed. He seemed a little reluctant to walk with me back to my car. After all the bells, whistles and flashing lights it's just parked in a hangar round the back rather than held in some futuristic zero gravity stasis chamber being fussed over by robots.

Don't forget it'll fail the MOT without the drivers door being fixed, and I'd think about doing it sooner than later - literally the bloody morning I had scheduled to replace my passenger door handle and Bowden cable I noticed the door sounded a bit weird when I shut it... the latch went at the same time FFS so I couldn't get the door open to get the door card off etc etc. You might want to replace the latch at the same time as you'll have it to bits anyway.

Just had the video report thing. Apart from a slightly corroded handbrake cable to the o/s rear, green across the board. A main dealer not finding anything wrong? Am I living in some alternate reality?

MOT isn't due for ages but yes, it's a priority. It's so bloody annoying. Luckily the weather's dry so I can unlock, drop the roof and reach in. That would get tiresome in the rain. The car did come with a box of bits and one of them was a replacement handle. No cable though. If the interior pull is still working will it still be the cable? Haven't really investigated yet.

Funny thing is that when the seller told me about it he did some Fonz-like knock on the door near the handle and it worked. My mate who went with me did the same and it worked for him. It's never worked for me. I clearly don't have the knack.

There are separate cables for interior and exterior handles. AFAIK, the interior one doesn't seem to stretch.

I have developed a method to open the door if the lock fails:

Re: the door not opening from the outside.

I've booked in for next Friday at my preferred garage for this to be hopefully sorted. It'll be a bit of a joint effort because he doesn't mind that. I'd like to go armed with whatever I'll need so apart from bowden cable, door clips and my extra handle is there anything else I should take?
