E89 steering wheel cover change

Ive cleaned and scrubbed my steering wheel to an inch of its life and still as sticky as an 80's disco floor!!

So thinking a new cover - I did my previous E85 which was simple however for the life of me I cannot see how the silver spoke covers come off (loosen).

Anyone done one or have any ideas - mines the same as below with the paddles.

I was getting more and more annoyed with the sticky greasy feel of the main volume knob on the idrive and there was a stickiness to part of my beloved Royal steering wheel remover with Audi-esque bottom chop.

God only knows what human based deposits had accumulated on that little knob over time..I plead guilty to mayo and other food based contaminants on the steering wheel.

Conventional cleaning products seems to barely touch the issue.

Concerned about using more powerful astringent solvents I alighted on iso propyl alcohol.

This is strong enough to to remove the grease / organic matter but not damaging to either the leather or plastics.

It took several applications with a fibre cloth to fully remove the stickiness…about 9-10 applications…

Did the gear lever / gaiter which was Royal modified too..

Then used some gentle leather food to finish it off..nice result…

Carried on around the cabin with the leather good..

Thanks B21 - yes Ive had about 6 attempts to be fair and micro fibre clothes as bad as yours but just cant seem to get rid of it all. might give that isopropyl a go in a last vein attempt.

It needed perseverance ..the first 5-6 applications still left area ‘sticky’ ..then it came good later..

Think it was about £175 that was about 4/5 years ago. Did feel good though
