Owned my Sapphire black Z4C for about 4 years but always been more of a Facebook group guy.

Was a daily driver but in a flurry of poor track etiquette and terrible driving I was pushed into a wall on a track day. So in a slightly unhinged bit of "boy math" I decided to save money on the repair by making it a track only car...

Met a member recently when I sold a part to fund the track build, and fitted it for him. He seemed to rate the forum, so here I am!

Any Winchester based members around?

Sounds like a rotten bit of luck getting punted into a wall on a trackday :( Which track were you at?

Throw some photos and a spec of the car up!

What are the plans for the build?

I used to live down Guildford way but moved oop naarth a few years ago. The southern lot tend to be quite active, I'm sure Mr Tidy will be along in a bit to introduce himself - I don't think he's far from you :)

I'm not that far from you in Windlesham. Terrible luck getting pushed into a wall, but I like your plan to rebuild as a track car. If you need any inspiration it may be worth finding Liam22s thread on his E86 race car.

This is far more active than I expected! I didn't expect any replies to be honest! I figured the new member section might be too boring but decided to play along 🤭

I absolutely adore these cars, so I'm delighted to see the enthusiasm! 😁 What a warm welcome! ☺️

I won't name and shame the track, as it was very much the driver, and I don't want to put anyone off. @Ed Doe I've lived all over the country for a few months here and there and I really rate it "oop naarth" 😅 I swore I'd settle around Yorkshire or Derbyshire but I ran down South for a job after being made redundant during covid and can't look back. I picked up a bit of the accent though and "Ey oop" is now welded into my vocabulary 🫣

1st pic is getting it home post wall track wall incident, no pictures of the rear unfortunately.

Doesn't look too bad but the crumple points on the frame rails needed replacing, lights, various sheet metal parts that were spot welded on to support components like bonnet latch etc. Horns smashed, lights were toast including the thin little supporting structures, bumper bar was good but obviously the foam was all cracked and impacted. Few more bits. Repair cost would have been about £2k if I got someone else to do it and sourced the parts myself. So I spent £150, sold the lights for spares, sold a bunch of components that track only cars don't need including interior and generated around £4k instead. Originally purchased the car for £5800, so it feels like a good start to a track project, although a LOT of work to get to here.

No going back now!

Recently bought a car that's been on this forum for the past 10 years or so. Originally owned by Roundozo, then by JamieZ4c before being sold recently to GWest44 and then to me. I bought the car unseen whilst on holiday but my pal test drove it for me so knew it was fairly straight.

Ha! If you're Alex (if not, two coupe track builds in Winchester?! Slim odds), I purchased a good chunk of that interior to put into my stripped out E86 that someone had used for 'track days'!

I was in Winchester the other week and was wondering how your build was coming along - I guess I'll be able to find out now! :)

Have you joined the Z4 Track and Race Car Group on Facebook? CAn't recall if I've seen the car in there but there is a wealth of knowledge and some good discounts on brakes/tyres/parts too.
