Changes to how my runs (B21) will be promulgated and organised

Background..

As a few here will know I organise a number of multi day runs, breakfast and lunch meetings and full day / part day runs.

Most are based in and around Scotland with the occasional forays into northern England and Europe.

Historically almost all runs were posted on the Z4 Forum but over the last 6 years an increasing proportion of would be attendees have left this forum and joined the Z4 Scottish FaceBook group where they have been joined by many others.

Organisationally it’s been far easier to manage runs via the Forum, however given that the overwhelmingly majority of runs attendees are not in this forum it’s been issue.

A few events that have been organised on FB events has shown it’s fraught with many issues…in part due to the much discussed FB culture and in part due to how FB selectively informs / updates on posts.

So..

I’ve decided to go whole hog for a pure WhatsApp community based system.

This community has a ‘Paddock’ where would be / possible attendees reside and then an ‘Announcement’ group posts upcoming events.

People can then elect to join an event which will have its own group created for that event , very much like how I organise multi day runs.

Allocations will be based on a first come first served basis.

Limits on numbers / cut off dates will be part of any announcement.

Depending on circumstances the events may be published in brief on the Forum and various FB groups ..but may not…especially if an events numbers are very limited and it’s known that it will be popular..

All requests to join an event and any updates will be done exclusively through the WhatsApp community.

If you want to join the community use this link..

There are some simple rules…

Do not do the German ‘ towel on the sun bed trick ‘ of asking to join an event when you really haven’t thought through the dates / implications / costs / appropriateness for you e.g. a boys hooning trip maybe not a good idea for a partner who thinks exceeding 50 mph on an A road and doing more than 4 hours in a day is reckless abandonment!-:)

Similarly saying your going then not turning up or giving adequate notice for good reason is frowned on.

There will be a two strikes and out rule for such situations. The person will be gently escorted from the Paddock.

Appreciate its not to everyone’s taste or approach, however I’ve wasted far too much time, energy and money having to cover / sort out issues caused by the current systems.

Thank you for your attention !

Will you be updating this thread on a regular basis so any new, future forum members will be able to find and join the WhatsApp group?

Thank goodness you aren't moving it all to Facebook because I've always avoided joining up to it!

I'll join the WhatsApp group though.
Sadly FB just doesn't work for many reasons..an example was this Sunday's breakfast I thought 10 cars were turning up tops..we had 17!

we had a laugh talking to a German lady
They are also famous in the UK for having no sense of humour.
Stereotypes, eh?

The irony is that our German friend on here has a good sense of humour, yet the British OP has none. It's an oxymoron, that's what it is. :)

Zedshed Cymru Group use a Whats App Group, its by invitation only, has a General Chat, Main Chat and a Run Out Chat, and a Picture thread, over 100 members and seems to work well for us.
