Issues With The Roof: Loud Thud & Drop When Opening The Roof

Hello to fellow members, I have a 2009 BMW E89 Z4 sDrive30i.

I have an issue when opening the hard top roof. When the back piece comes on to the top piece there seems to be a loud thud and looks quite rough. Has anyone faced this issue and what could most likely be the issue?

The roof support damper strut has weakened / failed ..not the boot lid strut.. needs some ingenuity or the BMW special tool to fit a new pair of struts..with the tool its a simple job..

Is it No.2, No.3 or No.4 in the photo below?

Its 5 in this diagram its a damper not a hydraulic actuator

Thanks for the help! Will try to look for a compressor to install it. The special tool is too expensive!

TBH, I don't see any responsibility of the struts on the main pillars for this phase of moving.

No idea at the moment.

I've placed it into the German ZRoadster forum to be discussed as well. Up to now lot's of AI nonsense as response.

I misread / sped read it…I thought it was when it dropped in the boot ..

Thank you for the info. But unfortunately the spring isn't available as an individual part right? It comes as an entire mechanism?

Maybe you'll check at first, if it is available at all or even broken.

The front headlining has to be removed to get an insight into this mechanism.
