Morning all,

I'm planning a return to Z4 ownership in the next year or so, no rush. I've been keeping an eye out but they are few and far between, in fact I missed out on one last month as I spent too much time deliberating. I'm quite particular in spec and definitely not after the launch matte green spec. Looking to consolidate my 2021 V8 F-Type convertible & MX-5 into one car.

Exterior colours - Thundernight Purple, Portimao blue, San Francisco Red. Potentially Skyscraper grey.
Interior - Black (boring I know).
Must have options - Heated steering wheel and Harman Kardon. Anything else is a bonus.

Please let me know if you're considering selling or see one advertised.

Will bump thread now and again.

Graeme

On here, I think there are two sapphire blacks (one is mine) and a Sanremo green within the UK. At the end of 2025 there were 36 manuals M40i's registered, with 32 being registered by end of 2024. As I ordered mine the next working day after the lifting of the matt green restriction and it arrived in April 2025, this means there is potential 4 or more that are not potentially matt green, the cut off for ordering was around Christmas 2025 I think in the UK, with production ending April/May.

Everything has a value, but you'd have to tempt me with a ridiculously high offer for me to part with mine ;)

Thanks for the information, interesting. I got the same number from howmanyleft.com yesterday, so rare indeed. But I did once own 1 of 7 manual BMW 550i V8 M Sport touring's, so there's hope of owning a Handschalter one day. No rush, quite happy to enjoy the rest of the summer in a 5.0 V8.

There were two purple cars for sale on BMW's site in May, one was around 2500 miles and the other 50 miles. Should have bought the latter car. Surprised the red media\demo car hasn't appeared for sale yet, although would be hesitant.

Haha, looks lovely, but black isn't for me I'm afraid. I know I'm reducing my options even further.

Good luck with the search, sounds like a needle in a haystack... currently more BMW approved used Z8's than Handschalters for sale.

Such a shame they didn't sell more of these, it's possibly my ideal semi-retirement car in a decade or two, but the rarity might keep the prices out of my reach. Green on tan (or is it tan on green?) is my perfect combo though.

I wouldn't mind it so much if it was normal gloss paint. Also, out of the 29 cars I've owned, the only car I've had an accident in (touch wood) is a green car, they blend into the scenery far too easily on the local country roads.

:ROFLMAO: I hadn't considered the camouflage!

As Kermit would say, it's not easy being green. Green cars were considered unlucky in the motor trade, we always tried to avoid ordering them for stock (but I have owned a green car).

Good luck with your search. After a huge amount of deliberation Skyscraper Grey with Caramel interior was originally what the OH sat down to order and within 30 seconds it changed back to Thundernight and Ivory 🤷‍♂️ women........ 🤷‍♂️

These will go up. My local dealer bought one of the last in thunder night and white and chucked it in his collection at the dealership immediately.

Another one has popped up for sale, but again the early matte green :(

Tough sale given the one on PH is £3.5k cheaper and with half the miles and even that one hasn't sold in almost a month.

I also noticed the red press car with registration "GBZ 3" is no longer registered on that plate, perhaps being prepared for sale. Wonder how many YouTubers have had their hands on that car and thrashed from cold.

I think there’s also a bit of the sports car ‘summer tax’ at play here.

I bought my M40i Auto from Group 1 BMW in January, had a few lovely trips out in it, including a week long foray down to Kent and across to Belgium, then sold it to Sytner via Motorway a couple of weeks ago for a bit more than I paid for it.

Sadly the Mrs health has taken a step backwards again, so car would have sat around doing nothing for most of the summer. I noticed that prices had risen so thought the sensible thing to do was cash-in for now as I can always buy another. My personal view is that that the values of G29’s are only going one way medium-long term, and that’s not up… but we’ll see.

I still have the Alpina 👍🏻

Yeah I agree, whilst the depreciation curve may end up being slower for the Handschalter versus a standard M40i, they're only going to go down, so would certainly not be paying top dollar for one. Difficult financial decision compared to my F-Type where prices are stable\increasing. Guess I have to offset that against the increased running costs.

My head tells me I should sell my F-Type now and hope a HS comes up over the winter months, problem is I could be waiting a long time and end up finding something else to spend the money as I'll get impatient :)
