Hi all,
New to z4’s. Got a 2003 e85 z4 and drivers door wouldnt open from either outside or inside. Got door card off without breaking anything. Stripped handle and mechansim off to fit new bowden cable. I found all mechanism broken in bottom of door so replaced that and bowden cable, door still didnt open from outside. Replaced latch as was told could be this, still doesnt work.
No matter how much slack or tension i get on cable it still wont open from outside with handle. I can get my hand in from outside with no handle fitted and push down on latch to open.
Any ideas/tips/tricks?

It could be the handle (outer)

The mech has 2-3 teeth that wear

What condition are they in

I can take a picture. It just doesnt seem to push the cable far enough. I even did the washer trick to tighten the cable.

Get a pic up of the teeth I would wager that’s the issue

If teeth are worn it doesn’t carry the mech far enough

It is sterling mate. Ill see if i can get one.
I did look at it other day and think is that worn but not sure what they are supposed to look like. Been most headache job of car so far.

Thanks. This lad is only 20 minutes away from me and i need one asap as off to nurburgring in it thursday.
Thanks though and if i get stuck ill give you a shout.

I have managed to successfully repair one by pressing a panel pin in to make a new tooth and reinforcing it from the side with another pin and a washer then coating the whole lot in epoxy,

It took awhile to do and requires the holes drilled for the pins to be tight to create a good fit, I'd probably replace handle next time tho.
