Thanks B21....but what is "Mapping" in this context?
Mapping is when you change the contents of one or more ‘tables’ or arrays in a ‘map’ that resides permanently ECU controlling the gearbox or engine..by changing specfic ‘cells’ you can alter depending which table boost, rate of boost change, fuel ratio, ignition timing etc..

On a modern ECU there are 100s of tables…

Since around 2020 BMW ‘locked’ most ECUs rendering it difficult to remap..

Hence why later cars rely on tuning boxes more so to get around this..

The ECU holds checksums for each table..by reading the checksum and comparing it to the factory checksum for each table in an instant BMW can spot whether an ECU has been ‘mapped’
