MSport Springs

Hi all. I bought my 2003 3L e85 back in September and aside from needing to replace the starter motor its been pretty reliable. I've a rear nearside spring gone now however so I need to replace it and will obviously be doing both at the same time. I toyed with the idea of doing all the springs with the Eibach lowering springs but the car is low enough for me already and there's some very high speed bumps in my town which it JUST manages as it is, so I'd prefer to keep it as original as I can.

I've just checked to confirm the car has the M Sport suspension package it on a vin-decoder and it says it has but I've had to trawl the internet to find any information on the M Sport springs.

I've managed to find the BMW OEM code for the rear M Sport springs (I think) which are: OE 33536761925 and OE 33536761926 and I think I've found replacements in the LESJÖFORS 4208484 Coil spring which says its a direct replacement on Autodoc.

Can anyone confirm this please?

Also to note, my e85 sits higher up at the rear than it does at the front so would I be correct in guessing that the rear springs have been done previously and are infact the wrong ones. I'm attached a photo for those that will know more than me.

Thanks in advance.

Those Lesjofors look Ok. I have used them before. Best ones on Autodoc are probably the Suplex, which are a bit more expensive.

You ride height at the back does look non-Msport, so you probably have the wrong springs on there currently.

Thanks for that, appreciated. Always best to get a second opinion. I've always thought the rear look higher than it should but it seemed to handle ok so thought nothing of it till its come to replacing them.

My Si sat like yours. Turned out to have standard springs on the back and, even with new springs, the front sat lower than BMW's figures so I added 12mm to the top of the strut to stop it scraping everywhere.

Odd isn't it. Were the new springs MSport springs or just normal replacements? I've seen other Z4's with the MSport setup and the fronts are as low as mine but the rear is low too. What could be causing the extra rear ride height, incorrect top mounts possibly?

I've got standard on the back and Msport on the front. Can't be bothered changing them! The correct rear Msport ones should be 229mm long and the fronts should be 270mm

Sorry, very unclear sentence. I had standard on the back, original sport on the front. Replaced both ends with Suplex Sport versions plus new top mounts and still had the front low so that was when I built it up. And, later when I replaced the front shocks, it still needed the spacers so the spring cups keep being in the right place. The only thing I can think of is that it's noted that the bottom of the spring mustn't sit butted up to the end of the mounting rubber and dink in the shock cup but about quarter of a turn round. I don't think I put them together wrong (twice) but I keep forgetting to check when I'm under there.

Somehow cannot understand why so many here have the wrong springs or shocks.
When I bought my 3.0si sport it had msport springs and standard Sachs replacement shocks at the front and standard SE BMW springs with worn m sport shocks at the back. Whoever replaced the probably snapped rear springs ordered the wrong ones, not only SE/sport wise, but also the spring rate was off. Instead of green horizontal markings for m sport heavier equipment cars it had blue vertical markings for SE light equipment cars.
In this way it sat lower on the SE springs, inbetween SE and msport ride height.
I can understand that someone wasn’t willing to pay msport shock prices at BMW and went Sachs SE aftermarket, but the rear springs cost the same at BMW, so why buy the wrong ones?

I used the wrong rear springs simply because that's all that was available quickly used when i needed them for its MOT. I have no plans to change them.

Yours seems lower on the front? I can get two fingers in the front gap and three in the rear. View attachment 295273
My drive it at a bit of an angle so it never sits level but I can get 1 finger in one side of the front, 2 in the other front, three in the rear on one side and four in the other. I guess an average would be 1.5 fingers in the front and 3.5 fingers in the rear. That's not only a hell of a difference between front and rear but my wife is now wondering why I'm fingering the car.

One thing to remember is that the suspension is set to basically expect 150kg extra loading on the rear axle from the meatbags in the seats.
