Dear Bimmers,
Yesterday at the Dutch MOT my 2011 E89 2.3i passed without any problem. After the MOT when starting the car I got numerous warning lights in the display, some of these light disapeared later. Only the check engine light kept showing. AT home I scanned with my OBD and found two errors: $07E8 and $07EC.
AT the MOT I was car number 6 or 7 in the que so I started the car several times just to advance 5 meters. I can clear the codes but they come back.
The car was perfect before the MOT.
Can anyone explain with thes codes are and how to clear them or what to do?

Thank Rob

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum!

First of all, don't panic. The good news is your Z4 likely isn't facing a catastrophic failure. The issue here isn't the car, it's actually how your OBD2 scanner is reading the data.

Those alphanumeric strings are NOT actual fault codes (DTCs). Instead, they are hexadecimal menu identifiers (CAN messages ID) used by generic OBD2 scanners to tell you which module is talking.

$07E8: Points to your Engine Control Module (ECM / DME).

$07EC: Points to your Transmission Control Module (TCM / EGS).

I came to the conclusion that the errors came from a voltage dip due to multiple starting the engine while driving only a few meters. The next day I went for a drive and everything was correct.
