AIRBAG LIGHT HELP

Had an airbag light when I bought the car a year ago
Fault was passenger seat occupancy sensor.
Installed emulator.
Problem fixed.
Worked for a month and then the light came back on along with another fault code that won’t reset

0098CA-SBSR (Right B-pillar Sateilite), resistance in firing circuit for right front airbag (E85) or passenger airbag stage 1 (E6x) too high

Anyone know if this is even related or any fixes ? Been losing my mind over this

Have disconnected battery and used contact cleaner on passenger yellow connector under the seat but no luck

It won't be related, there's a satellite module either side so it's the driver side module. These seem to be prone to water damage and general failure. Someone knowledgeable will be along to give you chapter and verse, I've thankfully not suffered this yet.

You could try the contact cleaner on the driver's door connector. It's also possible that the wiring has aged and cracked in the door hinge from the movement and gone high resistance. You could try swapping the door airbags over left to right and see if the fault moves which would at least eliminate the airbag (though they rarely fall.)

I was about to write exactly the same as above. Assuming nothing had been disturbed on the right side then it’s most likely to be corrosion within the door connector on the a pillar. But also check it’s not wet under the carpets.

Turns out disappointedly it is soaked under the drivers side carpet , passenger side is dry . Not sure how I haven’t noticed this before , is there a drain point for the water coming into the drivers side ? I have drained the points at the rear before since they were blocked but that’s the only drains I know about

That will be your door card membrane that’s failed

Open the door
Pour water along the outside where the window meets the door seal you will see it running down past the door card

Get that fixed ahead of sorting your module

You can get to the module by popping the doorway plastic trim off and peel the carpet back to see the module and record the serial number to try to find another one

Remember that will need reprogramming

Not sure if this changes anything but upon disconnecting and cleaning the yellow connector under the drivers seat the fault changed to absent rather than present and I was able to clear it until it came back a few hours later

If the same code came back it isn’t connected to the seat plug, so I reckon you still need to be cleaning the main door connector next.

Wot he said. The only thing on the seat connector of interest is the belt pre-tensioner and they have their own codes.

Since the airbag light comes on and stays on until cleared, if you've got an intermittent fault then you don't know at any moment whether the fault is present or not. You could just have easily done a rain dance and cleared the code for it to stay away for those few hours.

Thanks for the advice I’m quite new to this fault finding stuff , when you say main door connector what exactly do you mean and where I can find it , is it literally just the connector between the car and the door ? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Where the door meets the a pillar you see a rubber trunk and connector

That will be the one to clean the pins on

But disconnect your battery first!

One 8mm bolt to remove, then pull back the rubber cover and lift the plug up slightly until it unhooks from the pillar.
On the end of the connector is a serrated section like a thumb grip. Pull this away from the connector and as it slides over it unlocks and pushes apart the two halves of the plug.
Be very careful cleaning the plug as the pins are very thin and you don't want to be snapping one.
I use contact cleaner and a very small paint brush.
