FOR SALE BMW Z4 SDRIVE 35IS AUTO (2015) 45K Grey & Tan Leather

For Sale
Used front and rear number. Swap the bottom valance over on the rear. Everything else should repair. Even the seats will repair with some work.

I wouldn't be getting any of those jobs done by BMW. Most dealers sub-contract bodywork, paint, etc. so it ought to be cheaper to go directly to a body repair shop.

I'd go direct to a wheel refurbishment firm for the same reason, and they'd soon be able to tell you if that front needs replacing.

But I suspect you'd probably still be looking at £5K with VAT, and there's no guarantee it would add £5K to the value.

It's a tough call but it would certainly save you some hassle to sell it a bit cheaper as it is, and hope someone who is willing to track down and fit used parts sees it as an opportunity.

Good luck whatever you decide.

I would just sell it cheaper as is. It's all cosmetic damage, someone out there will still give you decent money for it.

Definitely wouldn't do it through BMW!

I would fix it and polish it to a high lustre then delete the pics on this thread before selling it for its full value. I say that only because prospective buyers might assume that the external appearance reflects poor driving and general neglect and so be concerned about associated mechanical problems. A shiny car goes a long way to attract buyers.

There’s a lot of good advice already, sorry to hear how you came to have the car.

On that note, and considering that you mention a young child, how much additional stress do you want/need. Is it upsetting for your wife to see the car every day?(rhetorical question).

Any decent independent body shop will be able to repair those bumpers, but there are plenty on eBay in better condition at much lower cost than new. Having said that, it’s probably cheaper for the body shop to repair those bumpers, than buy replacements to repaint. It’s amazing what they can do with plastic welding etc these days. Ideally, you’d want some ‘close to perfect’ in the same colour to swap over, to save repaint costs… which is easier said than done, and then you might have colour match issues.

The seats are repairable, it’s not that difficult to pick up a decent set of alloys/tires that don’t need refurbishing etc. etc. - But it’s all time and effort, and extra stress.

I have bought project cars before, as have many on here, but I’m not in a position to do so currently due to time and space. WBAC would be good to get a low valuation for probate purposes, but as for actually selling either get it repaired via an independent, or sell it it as it is via these classifieds, EBay Classified add with best offers or maybe FB market place.

It’s a tough one, but you could end up shelling out a load of money, facing lots of stress and then not making that much more after costs than if you try and find it a new home as it is.

BMW put huge markups on the work. They also likely price each job separately.

If the car is already in the paint-shop it’s not going lots of effort to paint a couple more panels.

I have negotiated with them before. They can come down a bit if you do decide to do it.

AFAIK, the fronts are the same. The bottom valance on the rear detaches from the main bumper.
35is has two horizontal plastic strakes in the lower ‘grills’ and the left one is perforated to let air into the oil cooler down there..in the Uk the 35i will also have the cooler I think..

Well it’s an £11k car for WBAC ..interesting to see what they knock off for all the defects..

But, the bumper is the same, no?

But, the bumper is the same, no?
I assume so.. the grills all clip in so I'd imagine that a 23i/28i35i/35is MSport front bumper is the same but with different lower parts

You will always pay top prices at BMW and the odds are they will sub contract some of the work out to local tradesmen. I don’s think many of the dealers have their own paint shops. In Lincoln, BMW sub wheel repairs to a local specialist . I deal with this guy directly and he charges just about half what BMW charge. They also sub out paint to another local specialist. So if you are prepared to ask around and make the effort I’m sure you could save some money.
Whatever you decide to do. Good luck with your efforts.👍

I think damage free it's priced about right at £18k - but I would look to fix that damage.

Do you have a good smart repair place nearby? Not chipsaway - a proper body place. I would think £2k - £3k spent would get you much closer to a sale.

Not worth the £5k at BMW IMHO.

With the damage as it is, that's a tough sale TBH. Car has been through the wringer.

If you inspect closer, is every panel going to need work?

Would not even remotely consider paying £5/6k to get it fixed!! No good independent body shops near you that could advise? Rear bumper looks like it could just be repaired and painted. I think sourcing a second hand front bumper and painting it would be the better option there.

Will the side skirt just clip back in?

It doesn’t need to be concurs, but you could certainly getting it sitting close to perfect for a lot less than the figure quoted.
