Hi Forum

I have recently inherited my father-in-laws BMW Z4 35I S-Drive.

Sadly the car isn't practical for myself due to having a new born and it would be a real luxury for us to keep the car.

The car does have some damage to the bodywork and wheels as it has been driven for the last ten years by an elderly driver. The front left alloy wheel in addition to the front and rear bumper really want replacing. The car however drives brilliantly and is a real head turner. Will update on the service history once the service book has been located.

I have considered selling to webuyanycar etc but I would rather offer it up to the forum to see if there is any interest from someone who would appreciates this future classic.

We are open to offers circa £18K as not in any rush to sell the car. Please comment or message me direct for more specifics or pictures etc.

Located near Market Drayton.

Thanks
Lee

You will need to state a price (forum rules) I'm afraid.
More pictures of the 'damage' would help, as from what I can see the front nearside wheel looks easily refurbishable (unless it's cracked) and the front bumper is an easy fix.
Service history? Options?

A late, low mileage 35is is a desirable and valuable car. Especially if eveything stacks up. Nice colour combo. Don't sell it short. WBAC will pull your pants down on a car like this (especially with some damage).

£18k is a good price (compared to others on the market) for a late, low mileage 35is. However, the damage is considerable. Buyers will factor that in which will put your £18k out of the window unfortunately. IMO.
BMW parts are very expensive. Two new bumpers will be circa £4-5k by the time they are painted and fitted. Then the other damage will be taken into consideration, cos it all costs money.

It's a shame, as it looks like a nice car. Or it would if it hadn't been battered.

Basically you either need to get it repaired or expect to get very low offers. Very low.

It's a sad way to get a car, and a shame you aren't in a position to keep it Lee.

As Pondy said I agree that wheels looks like it could be refurbed if it isn't split or buckled, so about £100.

My E90 3 Series got a tap in the back in 2023 and a new bumper cover was £650 (inc VAT) from BMW in primer. An E89 would probably cost a bit more but even with paint and fitting I'd hope £4K would cover both of them.

You might find it easier to sell for a good price if you got it fixed up - assuming funding is doable.

I've never seen that interior colour before, but it ought to be possible to improve that seat with a repair kit from Liquid Leather, Scratch Doctor or similar.

Anyway GLWTS.

I guess that considering the last recorded mileage MOT was in June 2021, with 146k, and taking into account the damage, I'm sorry to say it's not worth anywhere near £18k
Someone put the wrong reg into DVLA website!
Maybe double check your info before posting stuff like that on a for sale thread?

Thanks for the feedback all.

I have had an estimate from BMW to:

Replace & paint front bumper - £1,515
Replace & paint rear bumper - £1,537
Replace & paint side sill trim - £546
Replace front nearside alloy - £560
Repair & paint offside front wing - £250
Refurb remaining alloys - £330
Full body polish - £280
Total = £5,018 + Vat

What are your thoughts on the above? It appears in line with feedback so far?

If I was to complete the work what would be the thoughts on the value of the car?

Thanks

So you are looking at £6k to get it to a good condition? You may save a few quid by getting a bodyshop to do most of the work.
The asking prices on AT are between £13k and £32k, but the 32k one is unusually low mileage and very expensive.

It's also a very tricky market ATM, what with oil prices and everything else going on in the world.

Personally I think you may struggle to achieve £20k even with the spend.

Tricky decision.

If you want it sold it would be better to reduce the price to a level that would let the buyer get the work done

Indeed. There is a choice of two ways IMO......fix it and hope it achieves good money, or cut your losses and sell it for whatever you can.
I don't think there would be a massive difference in money achieved either way, if the car needs £6k to fix it.

Have you checked eBay? There might be some better condition bumpers in the correct colour you could fit (or get a body shop to fit) to fix the car up, but for a smaller bill.

Fwiw, I was £370 for two second hand M sport bumpers, and around £400 to have them painted.
Doesn't the 35is have a different front bumper to all the others, though?
And the rear has dual exhaust outlets, specific to the N54 engined cars.

AFAIK, the fronts are the same. The bottom valance on the rear detaches from the main bumper.

£6k to sort it out, thats not including servicing or tyres, the bumpers dont look like right offs and whats wrong with the front alloy that it warrants replacement apart from refurbing all of them. Guess its who you know
