I’m booked in with Salisbury Powerflow to have the SuperSprint Powerloop back box fitted on Friday. The intention was to improve the car’s sound at low and high revs, without inducing any motorway drone. By all accounts a Powerloop with OEM centrepipe and resonator achieves this without becoming a droney chav noise monster….
So why am I wondering if I should go further? A full straight pipe without a resonator is a no from me, but while I’ve got the car on the ramp is it worth having a wider centre pipe (of similar design/dimensions to the supersprint centre pipe), with a 14-18’’ resonator fitted forward?
Would the extra gas throughput of a wider centrepipe better enable the back box to operate as Supersprint intended? Would the addition of a resonator safely reduce the drone risk? Does that combo go beyond making the best of the 6 cylinders and into just too noisy to live with?
Or should I just be patient, fit the back box and see how I like it before going any further (or not). Obviously it’s a bit cheaper, potentially, to go all in now - but that’s only true if I like it..
Sorry, long stream of consciousness. Anyone out there with a Powerloop back box and N52 engine, with or without an OEM centre pipe who can offer their thoughts? It’s all about opinions, so keen to hear the full range of experiences
