9855 Resistance, firing circuit, front airbag, left, stage 2 --> which airbag is this?

Which airbag is this?

9855 Resistance, firing circuit, front airbag, left, stage 2 (E85), or active head restraint, front right (E6x). too high

It's getting worse. Was able to trigger error 2 times by slamming the left door close. Makes me believe it is the door airbag, but other posts point towards the steering wheel airbag. Before I start taking things apart. I'd like to know where to look ;-)

Or it could be the satellite module itself? But the "other" airbag seems to be oke and zero other communication failures.

Resistance too high does often point to connections rather than an issue within a nmodule, so start there with the easier stuff.

If slamming the door does it then could well be the airbag connection itself.
I would also suggest you open up the connector between the door and the A-pillar and check for corroded pins.

Having said that, the 'Stage 2' bit does perhaps imply the steering wheel airbag, as that has two connectors into it.

You need to make sure that all the airbag connectors have the locking clips pushed fully into place as they help to make the circuit.
Has anything been off recently?

Hai,

No recent mods / work. It's confusing not to know which airbag it is about. If it is the wheel, there is a slip ring which could be the issue. If it is the door airbag I do not see any weak spots.

But indeed was able to trigger it by slamming the door.
It is probably NOT water as car is in the garage and did not see any rain the lasts months. Just did a lot of rally driving so quite some shaking has happened.

Probably bring it to a workshop as working with the steering wheel is new for me.

Keep you posted.

Greetings Matthijs

Yes, the slip ring is another potential area to consider.

Done a bit more reading up and it does seem to point more firmly to the steering wheel airbag.
I temporarily forgot you had LHD which sent me off in the wrong direction. :headbang:

I've read the whole thread too (how else will I learn things), and since reading your post here, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, why would slamming the passenger door affect the steering wheel on the opposite side of the car.?

Of course, it wouldn't, because it's the LHD drivers door and the steering wheel is on the left. šŸ™„šŸ™ˆ

Some more internet digging.

LHD:
Driver:
* Steering wheel airbag, 2 stages.
* Knee airbag (not in my car)
* Thorax airbag in door

Passenger:
* Dashboard airbag, 2 stages
* Knee airbag just above glove box (not in my car)
* Thorax airbag in door

So I have an issue with the airbag in the steering wheel and the 2nd stage connection.

Hi Matthijs,

I have something similar, but different...

9854 Resistance, firing circuit, front airbag, left, stage 2 (E85), or active head restraint, front right (E6x). too low

I also suspect a connector in the steering wheel airbag not seated correctly, or a broken clip in my door airbag, based on:

I suspect the steering wheel, as the previous owner swapped it at some point for a MFSW. As it is a tatty wheel that needs some TLC, and the cable to make it work needs to installed, I’m planning to swap it soon for a normal wheel I have as a spare. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Cheers from a fellow Dutchie!
