Generally these cars are quite cheap to insure, even for younger folk. My 19 year old insured his 2.5i for less than a grand, whereas it would have cost him more that twice that to insure a basic fiesta. Costs tumble rapidly as you get a bit older. In my experience there isn’t much insurance difference between 2.2/2.5 cars and 3.0 cars, but the capital outlay for a 3.0 would be significantly more for equivalent mileage and condition.
I like autos, particularly in the larger engine formats.
OP is right to look at 6-cyl cars over 4-cyl cars, because that’s what makes them an essentially different car to, say, an MX-5.
