E89 Roof Warning Light

Hi all,

Bought this beauty a few weeks ago. BMW E89 Z4 20i.

Been driving fine most of the time but every now and again the roof warning light comes on the dashboard and the car shouts at me! I have "turned it off and turned it on again", also pulled the roof tray in and out of his holders. Even driving round with the roof tray down in its holders and it still get the warning lights and sounds. Also twice ive been driving round, the warning light starts flashing and all the windows go down as if the roof is about to come down its self. However the roof itself goes up and down with no issues at all. Any ideas??

First convertible so makes me a little nervous.

Without stating the obvious it sounds like a senor issue - and there are lots of them
Any codes being thrown up?

Assuming (looking at the pic) you purchased from a dealer, would that not be your first port of call after only a few weeks?

Agreed, bring it back to the dealer.

in the interest of not opening a new thread, I will use this one to ask a couple of questions. My e85 is now sold and I viewed a 2009 e89 2.5l yesterday. Drives fine, but when navigating though the menu, I saw the below icons. I tried to find online what they mean but I couldn't so I will ask for your expert advice please.
I understand the oil service indication and the car on the lift is a service reminder, I am more worried about the red ones.

Agreed, if dealer will co-operate then have them sort it.

If not, it’s likely to either be split wires or a faulty microswitch.

Lots of diagnosis threads on here, but make it the dealer's problem to fix for you. It won’t be that expensive £300-600 range (if it’s just a microswitch or wiring)

...if not the dealer will make it the next problem for the future due to his lack of knowledge about the roof mechanism.
