Help!!

My clock spring fell apart, I bought a used one and steering wheel audio and blinkers work, airbag light on and horn non functional, I didn't test cruise control yet. Did I just get a clock spring that was only half working or is something else wrong? Seller is sending me another one, was thinking about testing with my apart one that worked just to see if airbag and horn work. Any help is much appreciated thanks!

From memory the plugs are the same across that range, the M being no different

I think there are additional plugs for auto shifters which yours won’t have so it should be plug and play

Realoem is worth a check to see if the part numbers are the same across the range

Realoem shows M cars have interchangeable parts ending 091 with standard cars

You’ve either installed it and not plugged it in correctly or it’s duff

There are from memory 3 plugs around the slip ring, plus the ews plug on the ignition and the main connector block. Are they all connected?

Then there are the connectors that connect the airbag x2 and the ones that connect the steering wheel to the slip ring (x2 or 3)

Yeah so only two of the 3 connectors are used in the slip ring I am not sure what the third small connector on the left is used for probably for other cars with additional functions like 5 and 7 series

Yeah it's the same part number I already confirmed that, the seller sent me another one he has so hoping the first was just a dud but we will see

Was the airbag light on before replacement? Or did you start the ignition with the airbag disconnected?

Once corrected/fixed, an airbag light won't clear unless the fault codes are removed. They don't self extinguish (unlike abs lights, for example)

No airbag and horn were ok prior I'm going to test the replacement clock spring the guy sent and my original as the ribbon cable is still in tact just popped out but it SHOULD still work I would think

And yes I did start the car without airbag and drive it to test out the wheel and everything, but yeah if horn were working I would know the airbag likely works but since no horn seems no power to the airbag as I would doubt the car is smart enough to cut the horn power while airbag light is on?

If you started the car with no airbag that’s why you have a light on now which will need software or code reader to clear

Yes

But you were quoting two issues

One is self inflicted- the airbag

The horn may be a range of things
-fuse
-horns failed
-horn connection poor

The horn and airbag are same connectors no? The green and black cables that connect to airbag also power the horn or am i mistaken? Yeah im
Wondering if those two cables are no good or the entire cable, what voltage should I be getting from that cable if it were to be working properly? And which pins would I put the leads on to check?

I haven’t got my wiring diagrams in front of me will look later

But I’d look at the obvious things before considering plugs are in the wrong:

You’ve had the airbag off, have you not put that back properly as that is where the horn pressure plate connector is

Check the fuses

Check the horns work by putting 12v across them

What happened to the new slip ring being sent?

So none of them worked I repaired a wire that was disconnected but that still didn’t work so either my airbag cable is no good or maybe I have to reset the airbag light before horn works?

No the horn and airbag are not the same wires, the airbag has its own set. But as both don’t work, probably a rooted slip ring.. at least that’s where I’d start. Edit: wait, none of it worked before you replaced the slip ring? Then I wouldn’t know where to start.. be really fucking careful with the airbag, don’t short Any wires there. And if your uncertain what your doing there, which is what it sounds like, take it to get it fixed somewhere.. that’s better than a broken arm, nose/dead..

Which wire is the horn? There are only two wires that go to the airbag which the horn button is on so now I am confused, I bought a new harness wire for the entire piece so will see if that fixes

The horn and airbag worked prior let's see if the new harness wire fixes everything.

The replacement cable did it so I guess somehow the two cables to the airbag were no good anymore just have to clear the airbag light now but horn is working agajn
