Hand brake shoes / Cable issue? cost to fix roughly?

So had my rear brakes checked, they've flagged that only one side is holding, and it looks like the rear cables are frayed, so it could possible be shoes or cables, what should I be paying for something like this? they'd mentioned it was going to be 5hours labour plus parts around £700 mark which seems steep?

Have booked it into a specialist next Friday to check who I use for more specific Z4 work so hopefully they give me a straight up answer.

I got my MOT place (Mr Tyre) to do handbrake shoes both sides for me. I supplied the shoes and a new fitting kit and they charged me £75 to fit it all. Can't imagine adding in cables would be that much more work. Another hour maybe plus the cost of the cables.

Mayber a tad more if they go by the book. NewTIS says step one is remove the propshaft.
Plus make sure you find a garage that understands how to set the handbrake tensioner spring properly before doing the replacement.

Going to a BMW specialist Friday, £75 to diagnose it which sucks but hopefully that comes off the cost of actually fixing it if it's required.

Why not confirm that with them before they do it? It doesn’t need a specialist, it’s a standard job, any half way competent mechanic can tackle it.
