What have you done to your car today?

Fitted cruise control (bought from srhutch and usel here). Also had new pads, discs and calipers fitted to the front, which has resolved an MOT advisory.

Got the zed out of the garage from its winter hibernation.

Clutch stuck all the way to the floor. Would release if flicked up with my foot.

Oops.

Sticking release bearing?? Failed cylinder??

Turned out to be a moved floor mat which was pinning it in to position.

Phew.

A cheap fix. 🤣🤣🤣

sorting out the electrical gremlins which i suspected the door loom.
so far, so good. i will find out tomorrow 🤞

Tried fixing my soft top motor for the 500th time. This time enlisting the help of my much smaller friend who could fit into the boot. Nothing doing. Looks like I'll have to pull the entire top off of the car :headbang:

Gave my roof a good clean with renovo yesterday, gave it a clean last week with Miltons and scrubbed away the greenery. Took ages to remove the suds but this morning it looks much darker. It always gets a light clean when I wash the car but obviously doing it wrong.

"Secured" the splash guard with zip ties and twist ties, just enough so I can move from one house to another. Nothing's stronger than zip ties! (except bolts and doing it properly)

Eventually I'll take it to a friend who has a lift at his place, but he's currently working on his car, so I've got to wait until he's done.

Just lift the left side to pull it out.

What is wrong with your soft top motor anyway that 500 tries couldn't fix?

I pulled mine out with the roof like this:

When I bought it, the roof the motor was whirring but didn't move. I tried the manual release but that was jammed. Then the latch motor was having some troubles. Now the latching mechanism works, but the motor doesn't whirr at all, so I tried removing the motor from the trunk but my arm is too long to fit back there. Then I tried checking the fuses - they're all good. I then had my friend try but he couldn't do it either.

Unfortunately not my first time with roof motors and e85s. My 3.0i had motor failure, then leaked hydraulic fluid everywhere, then I realized the fluid was leaking from the hydraulic hinge/lift. To top it off, the latch motor also failed. Took the roof completely off at least 5 times on that car, dreading doing that to this car as the rubber seals still line up properly.

Dropped the subframe, ready to replace any remaining untouched rubber components:
- subframe bushes
- diff bushes
- RARB droplinks + bushes
- RTAB bushes
- all balljoints
- diff seals
- maybe the CV boots, if they look in need
- shocks + springs

And then drop the fuel tank, just to check for rust etc above it, as well as cleaning up any surface rust around where the subframe lives. The worse part is by the RTAB pockets, where it seems the RTAB bracket has trapped some water against the body, maybe?

Oddly very dusty up there, but it seems like most of it will clean off, so I'm hoping it's mostly good under the dust!

Great work @TriggerFish , so many questions. This is a job I would like to do one day. Is there a thread on here, where do you start, what tools required etc?
