Evening all

Long time lurker here.
I bought the car in November 2021 via the Forum from ScottR (who seems to have recently bought a new one),
E85 Z4 3.0 Manual | Z4-forum

It's not perfect, but it's still a cool little toy and you can't beat them for the money.
I thought I'd offer it to the educated buyers who'd frequent this forum with the issues as listed below. If no one's interested (and if it ever stops raining) I'll start addressing the bad points and put it back on the market in the summer.

Just selling as I need a 4 seat fun car for a summer jaunt, 125i Coupe is the current likely option.

  • ZHP Gear knob

Bad Points / Project Opportunities:
  • Still has a small oil leak, which I think is the common oil filter housing gasket. I have a spare, just haven't got round to changing it
  • Window switch temperamental, always works on 3rd or 4th time of asking.
  • Age related scuffs and the paint on one of the wings is dull, could be just in need of polish. I may have a go but I don't do detailing (or even cleaning for that matter).
  • Glove box hinge broken, replacement pin waiting for a moment to fix.

Pricing seems all over the shop for M54 3.0i, but I'll go with £2,750.

More than happy to answer any questions. Based in Bedfordshire.
Regards

Rob

Great car...!
Colour combo, wheels and enthusiast/forum owned.
The only thing I'd change if i owned it, is adding the MF steering wheel.
GLWTS. 👍

Well-written ad and, I think, a keen price for a good colour combo with what should be very simple fixes. This shouldn't hang around long, even in February.

That's not dear for a good looking Z4 but I suspect your tyres are 18s. Anyway GLWTS.

Hi. I'll send you a PM with some details.
I should have put in the advert that the car is in Bedfordshire. Quite a way from Hull!

Honestly, I can't get my head around why these cars are so cheap. They're as good as a Boxster, which would cost circa £5k for the 986 2.7 or £6/7k for a 3.2S. Oh well, a bargain is to be had for those who are quick.

So what would you expect a 140k mile, 22 year old car (which isn't regarded as a 'classic' and a very niche market) to be worth?

An E85 cannot be compared to a Boxster when it comes to desirability, hence price. It's an old BMW not an old Porsche.

On the other hand a 2001 3 litre Z3 (with the same engine) with similar mileage is worth double, or more. Now that is something I don't understand.

Nor me 😳

I can't understand Z3 prices either.

But I can see why old Boxsters are cheap. A mate of mine bought a 100+K mile Boxster S a few years ago for not much more than this, but it needs a new exhaust and he's been quoted £3K!

Thankfully Z4 exhausts are stainless so cars like this can be run for sensible money, unlike cheap porkers!

£2700, before haggling, for a car with a V6 engine, manual, over 200bhp, a 0-60 time of less than 6 secs, 25 mpg average around town and ULEZ compliant is a rare thing. If you put that criteria into AutoTrader, you won’t find many cars for under £5k, regardless of mileage. When I searched, there were a couple of SLK 350s and a 350Z for £3.5k.

I’ve owned Boxsters, 911, MX5, S2000, SLK (including the 55 AMG) for the money, these cars are a steal, especially the 3.0i in manual guise. Get it bought.

Servicing costs and especially parts costs are the reason why many 'expensive' cars are cheap when they get old. Look at what you can pick up a decent Aston for these days. £15k will get you a good DB9 but it will cost nearly that a year to keep.

It's even the same with some of the Italian exotica. I know someone with a 20 year old F430. He rarely uses it but it costs him £5,000 a year just to sit in the garage (annual servicing).
