Roof Module

Hi all, I had a leak in the boot that took out my parking sensor module which I replaced but it also took out the roof module which was totally under water. I have a 2011 E89 and want to replace this ASAP for when the sun comes out and I can actually open the roof. Can I just put a second hand one in and it will work or will I have to have it programmed? Is there anyone near me who could do this? I have the constant red roof warning light on the dash.

Mmm....might help, im in Birmingham just off junction 2 of the M5. Spent a fortune on this car and one thing gets fixed and another goes wrong, had the engine rebuilt, changed back lights and rear spring, coil packs and now this....does it ever end

Barely scratched the surface of what can go wrong…I trust you’re not actually using it!

CTM wise afaik if you get the same version it should be fine..but..I don’t know how 3 vs 4 solenoid management happens…sadly RobbiZ4 required on that..

Hi, no the roof is locked shut, the red warning light came on and bleeping, the buttons to open the roof started flashing so I ran a diagnostic which showed roof issue. The bleeping stopped and the lights on the buttons went off but the warning on the dash is still on.When I checked in the boot the polystyrene housing for the modules was full of water. Mike at the Zed Shed has offered to fit a new module and reprogram but I have trouble in getting to him and my MOT is due in March.

When you say you ran a diagnostic any greater level of detail?😳

If the boot had several modules wet you’ve got latest problems building…

Best to get the mot done and see Mike to get it properly sorted..he’s done hundreds of these now..

Everything else seems to work fine now, I will run a scan tomorrow and put results out.....this shouldn't effect the mot should it?

Yes, it's me. :)

As of mid 2012 the Z4 became a 4th solenoid on the hydraulic pump as well as an updated CTM software. These "newer" CTM's as well as new ones from stock won't work in E89 before summer 2012 without programming, as they expect 'n check for a 4th solenoid not available in elder Z4.

But, elder devices offered on ebay may got reprogrammed in between to newer Z4. That means, there is a risk that even a used CTM from the same year may not work without adapting to your car.
