Dreaded water in the car

Hi all so I’ve checked the drains and tried everything I can think of the passenger side where the seat rails are getting so wet am struggling to find how it’s blocked or even getting it feels worse after I’ve driven it I don’t know if that’s just me at this point 😂😂 what am I missing

I'm absolutely not an expert but similar thing happened to me.
I partially opened the roof, cleaned the drain hole at the top. Then tried rinsing with water, and got a few drips out of the bottom. I used an old washing up bottle to rinse water from the top and a pipe cleaner from the bottom until water was flowing freely. The back seat area dried eventually and has been good since.

It seems to go down now and not sit at the top just when I drive it feels like it gets wetter some how 🤦‍♂️

Is the drain water running freely? My problem was that the roof line drain was partially blocked and couldn't keep up in heavy rain or when I was washing it, but ok with a small amount of water.
Maybe yours is getting wet from another direction?

When I put the roof half way down before I used to just have water sitting there but not on the drivers side it runs freely now it used to be a massive wet patch , I’ve taken a small rubber bung from the bottom that had loads of dirt in it, am just hoping it’s just left over water that is moving when I drive

Sounds possible, mine took about 3 weeks to fully dry out. I was placing tea towels and desiccant bags on the carpet, changed them twice a day until it finally dried out. I couldn't really get the air to circulate well with the top open because of the restricted car seat movement.

Can you just confirm you do actually have a G29?
The discussion seems very much E85 based?

I have a g29 30i

What have you found best to clean the drains from the top?
Until you mentioned it, I had no idea they had the same issue. Hopefully someone with a G29 will come along soon.
I answered as it sounded like you were being advised how to fix an E85 problem. For all I know they could be the same?

Hi, As I said I'm not an expert. I took a few photo's to show what I did, roof partially open, the white cable tie points to the drain (downhill), which I cleaned with a pipe cleaner. The water flows out through the sill just in front of the rear wheel.

Beyond that I don't know, it worked for me.

Well it seems my good intentions have been misunderstood. @AliD thank you for the DM you sent me. I apologise if you think I was criticizing you. Not meant at all!

Hi Zed,

As you know I've only been on the forum for 5 minutes. Not sure if you thought I was a fantasist, or maybe not knowing which car I had. I won't be around after this thread expires -I get the feeling that newbies should take a step back and leave it to the experts.

I don't think this forum is really for me,"

"I asked because it sounded almost identical to the E85 issue and mistakes are often made with which sub-forum stuff is put in.
Sorry you've taken it all the wrong way.
My intention was to check in case you were both going down the wrong route.
We should never just assume if we don't quite understand something as it can lead to issues ahead.
Many times these questions have been asked and people have said oh hell yes, I got that wrong, thanks for mentioning it.
I will make a full and public apology and hope you will then stick around."

Perfect thank you, when I did it with my drain cleaner thing I was thinking this can’t be the right spot as it just didn’t feel like it went anywhere

Having now just learned that the G29 is very similar in set up to the E85, I am going to make another assumption, which may turn out to be wrong, but worth giving you a heads up just in case.
On the E85, the plastic trim under each side of the roof has the first couple of inches of the drain. This then connects to the main drain pipe which runs down in front of the rear wheel. If you rod it through too vigorously you can push the two halves of the pipe apart. The result is that the top looks dry and no water can be seen running out the bottom. It is all slowly filling up the sills!! So, just in case the G29 is dsimilar, take care when clearing the drain from the top.

Thank you for the heads up the water when poured into the top dose come out the bottom so I guess that is a plus

That is a plus!
My daily 2.2i (E85) must have had someone do that to it before I bought it as, after all this rain we've had, I drove to the end of the road the other day and when I braked it sounded like a wave breaking under my bum!
By levering the rubber jack pads to one side a bit I was able to drain just about 2.5 pints of water from the RH sill!!

I think the last owners just got rid of it after finding water in the car… I’ve done my best I just hope it drives out so I can see if it’s working as when I drive it seems wetter but when it’s parked for the day it feels dry 😂😂

I had the same problem 2019 30i. In the winter I noticed condensation inside the car. After a bit of Googling I cleared out the upper grommets and water flows out of the wheel arch. No new passenger side flooding but the foam under the carpet is still damp several months later.. There is a gap for wiring under the seat and if I poke my fingers down there it is still damp. The carpet above has however remained dry.

I found lifting the carpet up and getting a wet vac and some paper towels helps and letting the car sit with the heating on full helped speed up the process

I had a similar problem on the passenger side, the carpet was soaked blew the passenger airbag sensor which is located by the door sill. After intense searches, the problem was the scuttle board under the windscreen was damaged and let water in through the air vents. At the time I was having issues with condensation also.

Pretty sure mine was from around the roof. I assume lifting the carpet involves removing the seat. Not sure how to do that without getting airbag warning lights.
