Please don't say it's French. If so you will regret it.Hi all
Anyone got experience of importing a classic car from France to the uk?
Keen to hear of how easy/hard it was… before I commit
I think I’m going to regret this one…
Cheers
Stuart
I think you know me better than thatPlease don't say it's French. If so you will regret it.
Cheese eating/snail munching/garlic smelling stereotypesWhen you get it home you will have to remove all the reverse gears and the white flag from the bonnet.
Thank you. That gives me confidence.I have done it many times, but not for a few years. It's more complex / costly now, but no big deal.
You will need to get a shipping / transport company to complete the Port / Customs documents online and also provide a NOVA.
Once you have that and have paid the fees, plus 5% VAT (depending on age of vehicle), plus proof of age (foreign reg doc or from the manufacturer / club), you can apply for a V5 using a V55 forum. If it's older than 41 years, you don't even need an MOT or pay car tax.
Any questions, its best to call HMRC directly.
Have fun.
You can transport it yourself, but you need access to three HMRC / customs systems to do the paperwork for the port and to get the NOVA. So you will need an agent to do this for you.Thank you. That gives me confidence.
How about transporting by myself as opposed to a shipping company? Is that simple or would you just get a company to do it on your behalf?

Before the B word, zero fees for classics and 5mins to complete the NOVA yourself, but anyway still possible with a little help.
