I like to play a game when I see an advert. I read the ad then guess the asking price.
Let's just say I was quite a way off with yours. ;)

Always nice to see a new member on the forum. Just a shame you are only here to try and flog your car. GLWTS

I don't usually like commenting on private sale threads, but on this....I would say if you don't get any bites at asking price I would seriously consider selling the airbox separately (if you can) as they hold value very well and you'll have a queue of people wanting to buy, think there was someone recently looking to buy one actually.
Just my worthless opinion / advice though, GLWTS, looks a good one

Looking at the price the airbox must be £6k! Sorry op!

Hey people,
Couple of observations from my c.1 hour of being a member.
1. A car enthusiast for past 20 years, been involved in several different forums over the years, including the Z4 owners club uk facebook group, never had a real need to join a Z4 forum as ive also been a member of BMW Car Club GB, judging by some of the comments, it's the exact reason why I don't spend too much time on forums nowadays as alongside helpful people, you also have people adding comments that aren't necessary.
2. If someone has a good way of valuing these cars accurately, feel free to share. These sort of cars are difficult to value, and considering ive got about £6K worth of mods (which wont be to the taste of purists) it enhances the look, sound and performance of the car. Its not a stock car, so not really suited for anyone looking for a stock example. Despite this, cosmetically its standard, bar the exhaust.

I'll also add i do have the original exhaust system which ill include too.

Helpful comments appreciated, not looking to pull a fast one here, ive had some high performance BMWs over the years and know the pleasure of driving these, and after almost 4 years of ownership, have decided to sell.

Can any helpful members provide an accurate reflection of a 'fair' asking price based on the spec?

Also to add, this sort of car would be attractive to true enthusiasts, particularly Z4 enthusiasts maybe looking to buy their first z4 or upgrade from a non M model perhaps, so made sense to advertise here.

@sp3ctre Just want to compliment the forum interface, its developed very well and the navigation works very well! Im impressed considering the last couple of forums that ive used have lacked the tech updates to ensure a smooth user experience.

Thanks for the advice, personally id like to keep as is, as it really makes the car alongside the other subtle mods.
The performance and sound has to be experienced in person to fully appreciate it. Also with it being mapped with the box, I wouldnt want to tamper with it.

Now there is a leading question!
January......£12k
June.......£14k

It's an 88k mile car. If it was a 48k mile car then possibly your expectations may be a little more realistic. But unlikely in January no matter what.

But I'm not a 'helpful member' so feel free to ignore (or go ballistic at) me. :)

Couldn't agree more, it's a great mod, wouldn't be without mine, reason you barely ever see them for sale 2nd hand! Plus as you know it's a *bit* of a hassle getting all the parts together, installing it, mapping it etc. So one that's ready to go is deffo a plus for the right person.

My advice was purely on if you wanted to maximize your net sale price then it could be worth considering but hopefully it won't come to that. Sure Evolve can put it back to a standard tune if needed, should be a straightforward ECU flash though I see your point in it being a waste of an expensive tune

Exhausts on the other hand are very subjective noise / looks wise but as your including the stock system, no issues there.

I can't help you with market value as I don't really keep an eye on it but see how it goes with interest and go from there. I expect someone will walk away a happy person with it sooner rather than later.

Oh and get some more pics up of it ;) Edit -I'd probably also add some more details of service history - what Inspection is due next etc. It's no doubt going to be a picky bunch at your asking price. Also what version KW's you've got, sure it'll be the V3's but Clubsports for example would appeal to a different crowd.

A lot more detail would definitely help, especially service history. It is obvious you have barely used the car since 2022 from the Mot history, so your 'full service history' needs to be proven IMO.

I am not trying to put you, or your car, down at all but if you post an advert for an 88k mile MR in black which has been 'messed with' at £20k it really needs to be one of the best out there. And you need to prove it is otherwise you ain't gonna sell it. It's that simple. Selling cars for big money is tough nowadays. And selling a convertible in January makes it harder.

It does look like a well looked after car and the MOT history is better than most, so GLWTS.

Inspection 2 including the rocker cover gasket, spark plugs and diff oil all carried out at 87,043, receipt and some glimpse of the service history attached ;-) if I really need to prove my cars worth. Also the big bill from Redditch to evidence the con rod bearings, alongside a steering rack and the installation of the carbon airbox too, hence the big bill of £7K.

It is full service history, and well maintained no expense spared, so yes, I would like to think its worth every penny as its probably amongst the best out there.

Its my summer toy, only used for shows etc over the summer but maintained on a maintenance charger whilst in garage and regular driven around the block to keep the oil and fuel running smoothly.

Welcome to the forum 😊 Your example looks like its had some love given to it, and the rod bearing is a real bonus which will make it appealing!

Mileage seems to be one of the biggest indicators of value, low milers always seem to demand a premium.

I think at £19,990 is a tall ask in today’s market. Personally I think it’s £13,990 -£14,990.

That being said I hope I am wrong and you get more. The Z4Ms in my opinion are undervalued.

GLWS

It's always tough to sell a modified car even if it has all the things people want.

Unfortunately the spends just don't equate to saleability yet buyers expect the work to be done. The Z4M just doesn't have the draw other sports cars have with value/spends.

Personal opinion - It is mad people spend nearly 1/3 the cars value on mods like carbon boxes and expect the full value back but it is what it is. Cars with them also seem to sit for months.

Without the airbox I would think aiming at 13-14k is the right money. My car is the same ballpark and honestly in a buyers market it's worth less than that mine is also a rare colour combo. Unless your willing to wait for a long time for the right buyer.

I agree they are underated and undervalued and is the reason I have kept mine for so long that selling it is just a pain as it's always going to be worth more to me.

Im not in a urgent rush, looking to move so just means funds can be put towards the deposit, we have 3 cars in the house, so my fault for always keeping a summer toy 😉

Willing to wait for the right buyer at the right price, thought I'll be proactive.

I'm hunting for a new toy & the MR is at the top of my funlist.

My take on the price, I'm valuing originality, condition, milage, service history, colour in that order. The mods don't shift my valuation much TBH. Some mods are nice to have (because someone else paid for them), but don't add much to what I would be prepared to pay.

So I read the ad as "expensive mods, ok condition (brilliant/really good/good/ok/don't consider), higher milage (for me), some service history (details hinted at but cannot really be sure), boring colour"

I've seen quite a few listed that tick similar boxes for £12 - £15k, with the really good ones at £18 - £20k, minters with every box ticked £20 - £24k

Private seller also makes things more tricky - no comebacks - no warranty - may be more difficult to finance (for some) - no PX option. That pushes you to the low end of the above ranges.

Hope that helps.

I bought my M in December 2024, to a real enthousiast the month doesn't actually matter and I actually would prefer to buy off season to avoid speculative and artifically inflated prices that can exist in the summer, Mine had the rod bearings done, had the toys I liked (satnav screen, extended leather, KW suspension) and also had the Evolve air intake (not the full blown one the OP has). Most importantly to me as it is a keeper car, it only had 56k miles on it.

The biggest indication regarding price is that if the price is good, it sells usually within a day or so as these cars are fairly rare so a good one is snapped up.

My gut feel regarding the price, is that the same car with say 50-60k miles would be priced at that level. Unfortunately, at 88k, you have to work backwards from that price point.

For reference, I paid £13.250

I think most on here are pretty aligned. I've been hunting seriously since Christmas, I think this is an £18k car at a dealer (with warranty & comebacks), £14 - £16k private sale.

Check out autotrader & see how it fits with the others that are being offered maybe? At least that gives you a current view on the market, and whilst you will never know what people actually paid at least you can see the asking prices.

Get the chrome addon & you can see how the prices have changed / how long been for sale etc - pretty useful tool when guaging the right price.

I'm keeping an eye out for a blue or red car in immaculate condition, owned by the same person for 3+ years, around 50k miles, rod bearings done, serviced annually + extra works, no sat nav, pref a white or alcantara interior, nice wheels, tyres in good shape.

Expecting to pay between £15 - £20k & feel like I will have one before easter.

PVR you also got a great deal on that car, it should have been more than that. Its a rare combo with nice OE spec.

Sometimes its luck of the draw and how quickly the seller wants to move it on. The longer its up the less confidence the market has in the car. So many speculation threads on here of cars that have been up for a long time. Most of them have incomplete histories.

Unfortunately, these cars just cost money and dont return. Im into mine about 22k paid £14.5k for it 7 years ago havent had the bearings done yet. I bought mine and it wasnt as it should have been, ended up doing all the standard elements which was 3-4k straight away and made the purchase a bit of a sour one.

I doubt its worth more than 11-12k with 81k on it in the current market, even being in great condition and a rare colour with nearly every spec ticked.

That is a realistic sale cost not speculative. I would put it up for 13-14 to expect 11-12k. Its worth more to me anyway so wouldnt sell. Every time I mention it on FB on here I get a load of people messaging me offering me even less for it.

The other issue you have here is that the roadster just isnt as sought after. They are amazing buys at 10-15k but at 20+ most people would take a coupe.

There have been a couple of cars for sale for a while a 20k and 30k miles all up for 20-25k both still for sale been up for 12+months.

That being said only 16 cars for sale atm. Some have been there for a looooonnnnggg time.

They do cost yes, having just resprayed the front end as well as putting on aero and spray cost of those and going to replace the diff seals - it is a fairly expensive hobby.

However, if you look at the cost of a new M3 the depreciation of that in the first year pays for years and years of Z4M maintenance.
