Starter Motor Recall Parts Shortage

Hi all, new to the forum. I'm currently trying to buy a 2019 Z4, but due to the recall the garage can't actually sell it to me, and cannot get the part. It's actually a BMW dealership too. Any idea how long I'm likely to be waiting? Just curious if anyone else has experienced this lately!

Hi and welcome.
No idea on waiting times, some seem to have had them replaced pretty quickly. My local BMW dealer stated they are still trying to secure stock and will be in touch.
Good luck, and hope you don't have to wait too long

Had mine done last week, contacted and booked it in with my local dealer on 28 October

Thanks very much for the reply! It does seem a bit at random but appreciate the info!

My booking for tomorrow has just been cancelled, due to a lack of parts!
Apparently the dealer was sent a batch of them but had more bookings than expected since the recall started. I’m rebooked to mid-December as the anticipate they will be OK by then…

How frustrating for you! But appreciate the information. There definitely seems to be a shortage of that part!

I’ve just returned from holiday to find the recall notice. I rang my dealer who said bmw won’t have parts until at least next March. So what about the interim? Quite ridiculous.
I pressed them on the car’s safety until then and what would happen if it went up in flames? Contact your insurer and bmw was the answer…….
Unbelievable.

That is profoundly unsatisfactory, I agree! The BMW dealership I am buying through have awfully pleasant about it, but don't seem to have any idea when they will get the part. Which does seem odd to me for it to be quite so vague from BMW; knowing, presumably with some accuracy, how many cars were effected, there's surely some sort of timeline in place in terms of how quickly they can produce/acquire and dispatch a replacement part? But it seems totally random, haha!

I just bought a Z4 2019 and it also has a recall, which the dealership is sorting out. They couldn’t tell me an ETA on the starter motor. So I called BMW directly last week and they told me, it would be mid February to acquire the part to fix.

Ah sorry to hear this! It really is dragging on isn’t it?

I phoned my local stealer on the 4th November on receiving the letter to make a booking for the recall.
I am still however wait for the call back. I phoned a BMW main dealer in gods own country who were able to do the recall in less than one hour, perfect service, unlike my local dealership who supplied the car.
Guess where I will take my car in future.

Glad you got it sorted!

Glad it was all sorted for you, I’m on the waiting list and waiting for the call back, to book my car in. Though it’s still with the dealership, who seems uninterested to get things sorted. I had to doing the calling around to find out information. But frustrating, when the sales guy who was dealing with this, tried to sell me the car without the recall being done.

Hi, 6 months on and I'm still being told "waiting for parts". Anyone else in the boat?

Have had to wait 4 weeks for the parts to arrive, now to confirm when it’s to go in. BMW Edinburgh šŸ‘
