Hi, when placing an outdoor cover on my Z4 E86 Coupe, I have to bend the stock aerial to fit the cover on. Is there an alternative 'stubby' aerial I could replace the old one with? Thanks.

Nope. Good idea cutting a hole. I'll need to be careful the cover doesn't start to fray.

If you're handy, you could glue/stitch some binding tape or small rubber grommet/bung into the hole you make.
There are even kits which include the hole-making tool and a top/bottom ring that clips together. Unfortunately these tend to be for smaller apertures and include metal grommets...which risk damaging the car.
If you're less handy, a few thin strips of gaffer/duck/gorilla tape at 45º intervals, folded over both sides, should stop it fraying.

When I had the original whippy I just unscrewed it when I put the cover on, didn't even think about making a hole in the cover for it. Then I went to a stubby, one of those Peugeot/Citroen ones that looks so neat and lovely. No need to remove it when I put the cover on.
However, I'm back with the whippy for two reasons:
1) It's orginal and I want the car to look that way as much as possible
2) Reception is better
Notice how looks come first over reception. Form over function lol.

The simplest solution seems the best, just unscrew the aerial before putting the cover on? Takes about 20 seconds. Dab of copper slip on the thread while its off to stop it seizing too.
To answer your question, yes BMW sells a stubby. Stubby vs Whippy is a very sensitive topic on the forum......
The FM antenna is a wire that is located behind the rear bumper. Pretty sure the whippy is only there for AM? (Though I guess it probably still works in the afternoon.It's form over function with me as I never listen to the radio.
)
