I just received this letter for an extension of the FRM warranty. Not sure if they are doing it in other countries. However, there are several of State side people here that can benefit..

FRMs on E89/E90 are now failing often..in the UK we just have to suck it up…relatively simple job to fix but involves removal of the FRM and a bench re flash…

Age related to number of battery re-connects, coding sessions , flat batteries and just on/offs cause ..failure of eeprom memory ..causes a wide range of apparently obscure issues

Anything we can do to proactively take advantage of it if we are getting close to the termination of that warranty? Force a firm update, etc.

FRM failure is random but cumulative ..so the chances it will fail increase with every switch on/ battery connect / code session..mine a 2011 failed earlier this year…after many battery disconnects ..but..it happened on initial power up on a routine day..so the simple answer is no..

My reimbursement has not yet been approved, despite 2 email letters with attached documentation. A call today to the Hurst, TX reimbursement center, yielded agreement from the CSR, who transferred me to the Claims Manager, where I got voicemail, and left an explanatory message,

AFAIK it"s depending on the software version of the FRM.

Getting it updated to one of the latest versions should make it safe for the future. Of course, difficulty to prove that due the the small number of devices I've seen up to now.
@B21
We discussed it already in ZRoadster.com:

I also had to call them and bitch. All documentation from dealer was submitted, but they still sent letters wanting more. Finally gave me a verbal approval on the 8th of December. Still waiting for check...

I just received my $1330 reimbursement check for FRM module. It's been a very long journey. I originally submitted my paperwork 1st week of October. Going to use the money toward my oil pan gasket and water pump replacement.

Was your check from Hurst,TX? Any suggestions on dealing with them?
My October and November emails remain unanswered.
A December phone call conversation, got me a transfer to the leader desk, where I got a voicemail hang-up.
Thanks,
Tim

There was no way of emailing them. You had use usps mail or Fax. If you went some other way, I assume you are not being processed. You can call them at 844-857-0341 to verify your in the system. You should have heard something by now. Even if there was a problem with your submission, they would have mailed you a request for more info along with a case number.

Javis20, Thanks very much for your reply. I will try the number you provided. I do have an email address for them and case number too. While I have nothing from them since my Nov 2025 re-submission with receipts, my Dec 2025 call went well, until the CSR tried to switch me to the group leader desk. That's when I hit a dead end.
Thanks,
Tim

FYI, after my call and the front desk confirmed that they have decided to approve my submission. It took them another 6 weeks to process the approvel. So then I called again and they said, yes it was approved and forwarded to BMW for their approval and that would take an additionl 6 weeks. Obviouslly they really want to avoid paying.

Thanks for the follow-up Javis. They seem to prefer snail mail and phone. I will let you know how I make out.
Regards,
Tim

Hello Javis,
I called, got a nice man on the phone, explained the Dec 2025 conversation, which he recalled. He emailed me, and I replied to him, with the original email letters from Oct and Nov 2025 with part cost, repairs and payment documents. The nice man told me he would work to get my case resolved by mid May 2026. So I expect to hear from him, or will call him on Monday, May 18th.
Thanks for your support and help Javis. I'll let you know how it turns out in May!
Thanks,
Tim
