Agm Battery replacement and venting.

There are many agm batteries available for our trunk mounted location, do they all come with venting port outlet? Looking on line it’s hard to tell if they all come with them. On Rock Auto they show many batteries for the Z4 but not all of them show if they are vented.

Some are, some aren't. I have had several AGMs with vent tube attachments.

It does seem to be that the latest batteries are mostly UNvented. Don't know why.

I have bought two batteries in the last year, one AGM one not. Neither has a vent tube.

They probably use the same casing for a number of different batteries, some need the vent and some don’t. Can’t see why an AGM battery would make any gas to need venting, that’s not how that chemistry works.

Maybe they just have the part there to allow you to park the vent tube.. AGMs can lie on their side / upside down so a vent wouldn't be a good idea..I guess there's a safety valve in there to save the case from rupture in case of something really bad happening..

That would make sense as the last batteries I bought (one of each) both had red 'safety plugs' which needed removing "as soon as possible" but there was nothing to connect anything to. I would guess there are rupture discs inside the holes so instead of exploding it will just squirt sulphuric acid everywhere!

According to my research agm batteries even though sealed still emit some hydrogen gas but only half as much as flooded ones. My Napa agm battery needs replacement and it has a vent port——-I haven’t had much success with Napa batteries (don’t know who makes them) they almost always go bad just after warranty has ended. I will probably replace with a vented one.

NAPA in the uk have an appalling quality image…

It’s an E89 you need an AGM version…which as we discussed is not vented..

I have a NAPA 80ah AGM battery in my garage which is a 'spare'. I removed it from the blue E89 as thought it was duff. It wasn't as it turned out.
It sits on the garage floor, only used to power my tyre compressors, month after month without losing any charge whatsoever. Seriously, it just never loses any charge even in this weather.

So from my experience I would say they are perfectly fine.

It seems it’s about 50/50 with agm’s being vented or not vented, like I said my Napa agm is vented. And about half on Rock Auto show vented, not sure if rock auto ships to Uk? But I can buy most battery’s that they sell from Amazon and free shipping here in the U.S.

My local bodgit garage has now black listed NAPA products due to their quality issues…they are that good…🤔👎
