degreasing a clean car

My garaged car is kept spotlessly clean and I use a lightweight indoor cover. However, even with the cover on after a few days there is always a very thin 'film' of greasy stuff on the paintwork which I want to clean off. It's hard to do with a dry rag, as it just smears, and if I use a damp rag I then have to dry it constantly.
Any suggestions of a 'product' to wipe off the 'film'?

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD.

You can dilute it. 1:20 is standard, so you can increase strength until it works for you.

Cheers. Certainly the cheapest option!
I have a 5 litre tub of water-based degreaser (screwfix own brand) but am loathe to use it on my lovely paintwork, just in case.

It would likely be ok.
You are removing the film.

I use surfex hd often, I have 5l of it. It’s decent. Really good on interiors, but would likely remove any exterior grease. Best to watch some youtube on it.
 
I don't know what the 'film' is, as it can't be grease as such. It must be a concoction of condensation and general airborne grime. I do leave the pedestrian door open a lot (as it swells and gets stuck in Winter).
 
With a decent cover Andy that shouldn’t happen. Our cars are in an unheated garage and I don’t get that problem. How well is your garage ventilated? Poor ventilation could be a contributing factor.

The ventilation is good Ian, as I leave the pedestrian door open most of the time. Remember I do live in the centre of town with quite a bit of road pollution. Admittedly I do keep taking the cover off, as I like to look at the car. It is very pretty!!

Having lots of bright white LED lights doesn't help, as I can see every atom of dirt, dust and grime. :oops:
 
Ditch the cover. Over the years, I have had two indoor covers and during damp conditions both were ineffective at keeping the car contaminate free. Try leaving the cover off for at least a couple of weeks and see if there is any difference. If you get a lot of dust and crap dropping from your garage ceiling, plasterboard it. You are in a different league now with the red car so you have to 'up' your game. At least get a ceramic coating and every so often use one of these to remove dust. Don't use cloths, damp or otherwise as you will just micro scratch the surface, causing more contaminates to cling to it. Ceramic coating, ceramic coating, ceramic coating.

I agree. I have never been one to spend big money on car 'products', relying on cheap stuff and elbow grease. Maybe that attitude needs to change as I am obsessed with the red car. And my elbows are running out of grease as I get older. :rofl:
 
I concur with updating the garage. I have no dust on the cars (or next to none)

What car cover is it?

Never had any problems with my M6 over last 6 years been under Classic additions indoor cover, looks the same as it went in 2019....take it out to move to give it a quick detail.

Or just get the car ceramic coated and don't bother with a cover. I use a plastic sheet on mine now as its just easier to move around.
 
As mentioned above surfex hd is very good, I've also found that a Carchem Citrus clean is equally as good if not better sometimes. It just gives you a choice, plus the citrus clean smells better.
